An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Band 3 Medical Secretary within the Osteoporosis team at Torbay Hospital.
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, high-quality secretarial, administrative, and clerical support to ensure an effective and efficient service is delivered.
The Osteoporosis service is nurse-led, with oversight from two Rheumatology Consultants. The role includes supporting the day-to-day administration of the service, facilitating patient pathways by coordinating, booking, and proactively tracking treatments and appointments for patients requiring medication therapies.
Effective liaison with different departments is essential. The candidate should possess excellent organizational and communication skills, with high accuracy and attention to detail. Daily communication in writing and verbally is required.
The role involves tracking test and investigation results, ensuring timely review by relevant consultants, and undertaking appropriate actions. Handling patient and carer telephone calls and enquiries efficiently, sensitively, and confidentially is vital, along with exercising judgment to resolve issues and refer as appropriate.
Clinic outcomes must be recorded accurately, and any incomplete or incorrect records should be amended. The role also includes managing correspondence, supporting the clinic with administrative tasks such as filing, post handling, photocopying, and managing patient notes.
Planning and organizing workload effectively, highlighting concerns to the Admin Team Leader, and producing/updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are key responsibilities.
About us: The Osteoporosis Service is a nurse-led service with oversight from two Rheumatology Consultants, based at Torbay Hospital. The administration team comprises three medical secretaries.
