Overview
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation, to delivering completed infrastructure and maintaining it, our work covers the entire project cycle. We support global and local transport strategies, business cases, and funding bids for major schemes and local initiatives across West & South Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, Cumbria, and Wales.
Role Overview
As a Transport Planner, you will be based in one of our northern offices and support the development of transport strategies, business cases, and wider planning projects. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, deliver technical inputs, analyse data, and contribute to reports and proposals. Candidate Specification
Typically around 2–4 years of post‑graduate experience in transport planning with exposure to transport policy, strategy, business cases, transport economics, rail and bus planning, or sustainable transport.
Essential Qualifications
 * A strong interest in transportation, transport policy and strategy, business cases, placemaking, and sustainability with a related degree (e.g. Transport Planning, Geography, Engineering, Economics, Urban Planning).
 * Membership or pursuit of membership of a relevant professional organisation (CIHT, CILT, TPS, ICE).
 * Demonstrable skills in transport policy and strategy, business cases, transport economics, scheme development, appraisal, or sustainable transport planning.
 * Good report‑writing abilities.
 * Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities, including manipulating and interpreting transport and socio‑economic data using spreadsheets and other tools.
Desirable Qualifications
 * MSc or postgraduate qualification in a transport‑related subject.
 * Experience with mapping software packages and GIS skills.
 * Interest or qualification in urban design and experience of major movement studies.
 * Knowledge of the North‑West and/or North‑East transport and regeneration markets.
 * Understanding of the DfT Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG) and the HM Treasury Green Book in scheme development.
