Who are we?
Within the Anglian Water @one Alliance, we are a fully collaborative organization comprising seven partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska, and SWECO) and our extended supply chain. Together, we deliver over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment program.
We are preparing for our most ambitious Asset Management Period yet, known as AMP8, which will involve a larger scope of work than ever before. This includes a new approach to project delivery focusing on nature-based solutions such as wetlands and urban drainage schemes.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Environment and Sustainability Manager to lead and support our commitment to environmental excellence and sustainability within the @One Alliance.
What will you be doing as our Environment and Sustainability Manager?
You will oversee environmental compliance, promote sustainable practices across projects, and ensure adherence to environmental legislation and best practices. You will manage a team of Environment and Sustainability Advisors and collaborate across teams to improve environmental performance. This role offers a chance to make a tangible impact on our projects and sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Project Support: Provide expertise to construction projects on environmental issues, develop sustainable working practices, and ensure compliance with the Alliance Management System (AMS).
* Alliance Management System: Monitor legislation, promote best practices, and manage environmental audits, inspections, and NCRs.
* Inspection and Auditing: Develop and oversee environmental audit schedules, conduct ISO 14001 audits, and provide feedback.
* Communication: Lead Environment and Sustainability Team meetings and engage stakeholders, including reporting on environmental performance.
* Environmental Training: Develop and deliver training, educational tools, and materials addressing environmental issues.
* Performance Reporting: Collect, validate, and report environmental data, driving continuous improvement based on targets and audit results.
Skills, Experience, and Behaviors
Qualifications & Experience:
* Proven environmental management experience in construction.
* Degree in an environmental-related field; PIEMA membership (IEMA Chartered status preferred).
* Lead ISO 14001 Auditor or trained auditor.
* Experience with contaminated land, waste management, soil testing, carbon, ecology, and incident investigation.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
Skills:
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Proficiency in Visio, Power BI, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, GIS.
* Organizational and negotiation skills.
* Strategic thinking and conflict resolution abilities.
