 
        
        Community Paediatric South Substantive Consultant
Employer: Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – Oxford, Oxford. Salary: £109,725‑£145,478 per year. Closing: 15 Nov 2025.
Position
Consultant in Community Paediatrics – a less‑than‑full‑time post (7.5 sessions a week) in the Department of Community Paediatrics, Oxford Children’s Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford.
Main Duties
 * Community Paediatrics and neuro‑disability assessments (secondary assessment and management of children with developmental difficulties, special educational needs, and child protection).
 * Provision of community paediatric/neuro‑disability care to a defined geographical area of Oxfordshire, including clinics in a special school.
 * Multidisciplinary assessments, supervision of specialist registrars/ speciality doctors, and contribution to the child protection rota.
 * Teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students and training of community paediatric higher specialist trainees.
 * Administrative support – appropriate support will be provided.
Qualifications
 * Full GMC licence to practice.
 * MRCPCH, MRCP or equivalent.
 * CCT/CESR with registration on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics, or within 6 months of CCT at interview.
 * CCT in Community Paediatrics or equivalent experience (within 6 months of CCT at interview).
 * Trained to level 3 safeguarding/Child Protection.
Experience
 * Experience in Community Paediatrics including child safeguarding work; hospital appointments in Paediatrics at SHO/ST1‑3 and registrar/ST4‑8 levels.
 * Evidence of independent clinical decision‑making at consultant level and management of complex clinical problems.
 * Experience in writing child protection reports and attending case conferences and court‑room experience.
 * Locum consultant experience preferably in Community Paediatrics.
Skills
 * Leadership – ability to lead a team of professionals.
 * Organisation and management – effective administrative and time‑management skills, knowledge of NHS organisation and government agenda.
 * Communication – good spoken and written English, highly developed interpersonal skills, experience in difficult communications.
 * Teaching and training – experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training.
 * Clinical governance – evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical risk management and audit activities.
Other requirements
 * Driving licence and access to a car for travel.
