Job summary

City and Hackney Specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Neurodevelopmental Team

Highly Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Nurse Prescriber and Practitioner. 37.5 Hours per Week - Permanent Contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Nurse Prescriber and Practitioner to join the Neuroidevelopmental Team at City and Hackney Specialist CAMHS.

The post holder will:

* Conduct comprehensive specialist assessments, including risk assessments, for young people with mild learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and/or ADHD.
* Deliver evidence-based behavioural management interventions as part of integrated care packages for children, young people, and their families/carers.
* Prescribe and monitor medication safely, in accordance with local and national guidelines, in collaboration with a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.
* Clearly and sensitively communicate the purpose, side effects, and considerations of prescribed medications to young people and their families/carers.
* Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of psychotropic medications, including their effects, side effects, and contraindications, in line with independent and supplementary prescriber training and relevant legislation.
* Stay informed of emerging evidence and best practices in prescribing.


Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will become part of a large and experienced multi-disciplinary team providing diagnostic assessments and mental health interventions for children, young people, and families affected by neurodevelopmental disorders.

Job responsibilities

To provide comprehensive specialist assessments, including risk assessment of young people and their families/carers referred with learning disability and/or autistic spectrum disorder and/or ADHD.

To provide evidence-based behaviour management interventions as part of an integrated care package to children, young people and their families/carers.

To safely prescribe and monitor medications within local and national guidelines, in liaison with a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist. This includes conveying to parents, carers and young people, the implications of a prescribed medication, the side effects and what they have to watch for in a sensitive, meaningful way.

To demonstrate a working knowledge of the prescription of medication effects, side-effects and contra-indications in accordance with the independent and supplementary prescribers training and current legislation.

To be aware of key trends in the evidence base for prescribing and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of medicines commonly prescribed

1.6. To maintain a record of all medicines prescribed for audit purposes.To monitor the efficacy of medicines prescribed and manage any side effects safely, using the Yellow Card reporting system as appropriate.


Person Specification


EDUCATION & TRAINING

* Registered Nurse Mental Health or Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities or Registered Children's Nurse. Part 3/8/13 or 15 NMC register
* ENB 998 or equivalent


Experience

* Previous experience of working in CAMHS or equivalent
* Experience of working specifically with neurodevelopmental disorders


Skills

* Evidence of flexible working practices and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Evidence of well developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS


Knowledge

* Sound working knowledge of national policy and guidelines for working in CAMHS
* Specific knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders and their assessment and management
