Overview
The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for either a Professional Practice Assistant Professor (non-tenure-track) or Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Criminal Justice. This is a full-time position. The position is located at the USU Eastern Campus in Price, Utah. We particularly seek applications from individuals with criminal justice teaching experience at the university level and experience working in corrections.
This is a nine-month appointment with USU's criminal justice program, beginning August 2025. The area of teaching specialization for this position is open.
Responsibilities
1. The successful candidate will provide support for a quickly growing and high demand applied criminal justice program. The successful candidate will also assist in the administration of the Corrections
2. Leadership Training program within the criminal justice program. Additional responsibilities include: Teaching lower and upper-division courses in the criminal justice program Advising undergraduate students Providing service to the department, the university, and the profession Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
To be considered as a Professional Practice Assistant Professor:
Minimum Qualifications: an MA/MS in criminal justice/criminology or a closely related social science discipline at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
3. Experience teaching undergraduate courses in criminal justice
4. Teaching experience with distance education technology and delivery modalities
5. Experience working in corrections.
To be considered as an Assistant Professor:
Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) of the following at time of appointment:
6. A PhD in criminal justice/criminology or a closely related social science discipline
7. A Juris Doctorate (JD) and a Master’s degree in criminal justice/criminology or a closely related social science discipline
8. A JD and demonstrated relevant experience in criminal justice/criminology.
Preferred Qualifications:
9. Experience teaching undergraduate courses in criminal justice
10. Teaching experience with distance education technology
11. A record of scholarly activity
12. Experience working in corrections.
