Overview

Wood is currently sourcing Expression of Interest applications for an upcoming Construction Manager position to be located in North East England. The role is key across established client sites and facilities within the Teesside Area, leading the construction team to ensure project scope is completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards for high‑profile clients.


The Role

As Construction Manager, you will manage and lead a team of construction staff to develop project execution strategies, construction pathways and project‑specific documentation, including constructability reviews, construction methodologies and associated risk assessments. You will support and ensure collaboration with discipline managers and interfaces with other departments, support estimating and development of robust project estimates and execution schedules, guarantee quality and integrity of the project, and manage construction cost and schedule.

Responsibilities

* Responsible for all aspects of construction management
* Accountable for the overall contract construction effort, including safety, planning, cost and delivery of all field works on the Contract
* Supervise, organise and coordinate site construction and coordination with the Home Office, Client, Vendor and Commissioning teams to provide high‑quality support in accordance with the Contract
* Ensure full construction integration to project delivery by encouraging regular engineering, procurement and construction interface meetings
* Provide construction expertise during Detail Design, in the form of constructability reviews, scope minimisation and ensuring safest and most efficient construction methods are adopted
* Ensure all site activities are performed safely, environmentally responsibly and with integrity, delivering HS&E targets
* Oversee the home office team to ensure quality construction input to integrated engineering and planning processes
* Deliver site teams to meet Client’s business schedules
* Provide technical expertise and guidance on all construction‑related activities
* Performance reporting to Project Management, monitoring work progress and reporting against the plan
* Set and apply strategic and tactical direction regarding policy, procedures, workforce staffing and budgeting
* Ensure safety, quality and environmental responsibilities are defined and communicated to workers in their areas of control
* Understand and manage the industrial relations environment impacting the site and report any issues as required
* Manage and control project cost and schedule of assigned discipline/subset of onsite construction, utilising commercial processes to capture variations effectively


Qualifications

* ISCED Level 6 qualification or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience
* Vocational qualification such as NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management is an advantage
* Recognised HSE qualification desirable


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* Appropriate level of Construction Management experience, typically gained through extensive post‑qualification experience in a relevant industry
* Extensive and demonstrable experience in managing multi‑discipline projects in Oil and Gas, Gas Processing or other relevant process industries
* Proven experience managing home office, site construction and commissioning teams
* Exposure and familiarity with working within a technical environment
* Demonstrable experience of leading Constructability and Construction Readiness Reviews
* Experience of people management in a construction context
* Excellent communication skills
* Strong delegation skills
* Proficient in MS Office suite and familiar with other software packages
* Experience with Completions Management Systems and processes through to completion and handover to commissioning
