Principal Protection & Control Engineer/Team Lead is a key senior role providing technical leadership in substation design, especially Protection and Control work packages. The role will develop capability and drive turnover from project delivery for Kelvin Power and Vinci Energies Group. The person should have excellent technical, leadership, communication skills, strong commercial awareness, and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the technical development in P&C, substation design and engineering functions within Kelvin Power and Vinci Energies in the Transmission and Distribution market.
* Act as checker/approver and technical governance manager for deliverables in the P&C substation design and related disciplines.
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of P&C engineers and designers.
* Provide technical supervision in engineering projects related to Kelvin Power and Vinci Energies markets.
* Develop capability in cyber security, SCADA, P&C, substation design (layout & electrical) and expertise in emerging markets such as HVDC to grow the business in the Transmission & Distribution market.
* Lead client engagements, develop proposals, win work and deliver projects, empowering team members to support business growth.
* Provide technical expertise to other Vinci‑Energies groups (i.e., Omexom) to secure the pipeline for the group and ensure success across the group.
* Embrace innovation and implement new solutions and technologies in the substation design engineering domain.
* Act as industry expert in electrical substation design and present showcase Kelvin Power and Vinci Energies’ technical expertise at conferences, workshops, and industry groups.
Requirements
* Technical expertise in substation design and/or Transmission and Distribution networks, earthing design, HV/MV cable design, and routing.
* Experience with EPC projects, design management, design assurance, specifications, construction, and commissioning.
* Experience managing a design team and training/mentoring junior members.
* Experience leading bids and proposals.
* Client‑facing experience.
* Passion for business development.
* Excellent commercial awareness and business acumen.
* Chartered accountant or working towards chartered status.
* CEAE (Contractor Design Approval Engineer) or LCDAE (Lead Contractor Design Approval Engineer) – Protection & Control accredited with National Grid.
