Department
The Income team sits within the Finance, Planning and Data Insight section, which is responsible for managing the University’s income and expenditure, ensuring value for money and compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements. The Income team plays a vital role in supporting the University’s financial sustainability through the effective collection of income and management of debt recovery.
The team comprises a Senior Income Assistant and three Income Assistants, who work collaboratively to deliver a professional, efficient and customer focused service to students and external customers.
The team works closely with colleagues across Finance, Planning and Data Insight and with key stakeholders including Accommodation, Student Support and academic departments, ensuring income related processes are managed effectively and in line with the University’s standards and regulatory requirements.
Duties of the Role
The Income Assistant is responsible for delivering an accurate, efficient and customer focused income collection service, supporting the receipting, reconciliation and recovery of University income in line with financial regulations and procedures.
The role involves acting as a key point of contact for students, staff and external customers, resolving income related queries, supporting credit control activities, and negotiating and monitoring repayment plans where required.
Working closely with colleagues across Finance, Planning and Data Insight and the wider University, you will support the effective income collection, reduces outstanding debt, maintains robust financial controls, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements including GDPR and anti-money laundering legislation, and contributes to continuous improvement of income and customer service processes within the Student Services Hub.
Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidate will have strong customer service and finance experience, with excellent IT skills and the ability to work accurately with financial data in a fast-paced environment.
You will be confident communicating with students, staff and external customers, able to explain financial information clearly, and comfortable working with accounting systems and bulk data.
The role requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, flexibility and teamwork, along with a commitment to delivering an excellent customer experience and meeting regulatory requirements.
