Our long standing practice nurse is retiring after 18 years and we are seeking a part time replacement to join our experienced nursing team. The role includes long-term condition management, cytology, vaccinations, health screening and health promotion.
Experience of working in General Practice is preferred and ideally a prescribing qualification would be useful. The role is offered at a minimum of 15 hours a week worked over 2 two or three days.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant must be a Registered Nurse and have current NMC registration. The main duties are to provide general nursing services and support to the GPs, Nurses and patients at Addingham Surgery.
To provide support to junior members of the nursing team including healthcare assistants.

We have a team of clinicians comprising of 2 General Practitioner's, 1 Allied Clinical Practitioner, 2 nurses and a Health Care Assistant. We also work with a wider team of clinicians, such as physiotherapists, pharmacists and social prescribers. We have a very experienced team of receptionist, administrators and the practice is managed by the practice manager and supported by a reception supervisor. Job responsibilities
Actively participate in clinical and practice meetings
Develop clinical protocols for the surgery and the team
Provide Chronic disease management for Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, and CHD/CVD
Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness
Administer adult and paediatric injections
Provide adult and child immunisations ensuring full achievement of targets
Ensure safe storage, rotation, and disposal of vaccines and drugs
Undertake venepuncture and electrocardiography
Undertake wound care/ management / dressing techniques
Undertake leg ulcer management, dopplers and compression bandaging
Provide advice on lifestyle issues, assisting and supporting patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours and refer appropriately
Participate in the smoking cessation service
Deliver travel health care, including vaccinations and advice for patients
Recognise the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviours, suicidal tendencies, and be aware of local, referral procedures
Work with safeguarding teams where relevant
Ensure that current evidence-based approaches to patient care are standard practice
Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling of laboratory specimens, disposing of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluids spillages and report and treat sharps injuries
Undertake first aid and management of emergencies, burns, haemorrhages, hypo/hyperglycaemic emergencies/asthma attacks
Provides a comprehensive family planning service
Audit outcomes of care against standards and initiate change as necessary ensuring follow-up audit cycle
Maintain and update disease registers

Essential
1. Nursing degree or other relevant nursing qualification granting professional license to practice primary care nursing
2. Qualified in chronic disease management for Diabetes, Asthma, COPD and CHD/CVD

6. Independent prescribing qualification
