Support worker for 16-18 year olds days

We provide accommodation to 16-18 year old looked after children, we are currently recruiting for experienced support workers to offer daily support to the young people we care for. The home is staffed 24-7, based in Erdington Birmingham. The support offered to our young people is based around several key areas, health and well-being, day to day skills, education, employment or training and well as independence skills. Our aim is to equip the young people with all the necessary skills they require ready for the next stage of their life.

We are recruiting for 1x Full time position, totalling 37.5hrs a week

This will be 3 shifts over a 7 day period

Immediate start available for those on update register.

Pay will be £13.21 from 1st April 2026

We offer a thorough Induction and Training package for all our staff. Once this is complete your job description/duties will include:

* Provide practical support whilst on shift for all young people
* Build and develop relationships with our young people and encourage them to participate fully in the opportunities offered within the homes and external environments.
* Contributing to the support and independent living skills needs of young people in co-operation with other team members. To follow and be aware of the Individual needs of the young person, their support plans and individual risk assessments.
* To record in the young person's daily summaries throughout your shift an actual factual account of the shift and the activities of the young people.
* To ensure that all other records are kept up to date including such as incident or accident reports and log book.
* Conduct key work sessions with young people and produce reports for each session.
* To ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of each young person and that safeguarding procedures are followed at all times and understand how to raise concerns.
* Support our young people with everyday tasks such as cooking and cleaning, appointments, meetings etc
* Build strong working relationships with external agencies such as Local Authorities and other Health/ Social Professionals.
* Have an understanding of, and to follow the required policies, processes and procedures; and ensure that they are being adhered to.
* To ensure the security of the building and the safety and well-being of the young people.
* To promote and ensure that all young people are abiding by the rules of the home.
* To ensure that the environment of the home is maintained by undertaking and completing a range of cleaning duties as instructed in terms of promoting good hygiene practice, health and safety and cleanliness.
* To report to the Manager any incidents or concerns about the young people/or the home
* Attend staff meetings and training sessions as and when required
* Ensure standards of the home are maintained through adhering to house rules, policies and procedures.

Experience:

* Support / care: young adult or children's residential/ semi independent accommodation with 1 years (Minimum)

Licence/Certification:

* Clear Enhanced DBS check (required)

The Ideal candidate will be:

NVQ Qualified (Minimum Level 3) in a social care related subject.

Experienced in working with young people who display challenging behaviour.

Able to demonstrate an understanding of social emotional and behavioural difficulties and how these may impact the lives of the young people that we support.

Able to inspire and encourage young people to engage in all aspects of daily living.

An empowering, approachable and resilient worker.

Able to provide a person-centred approach.

Confident, influential and inspiring.

Professional at all times.

Understanding of the full range of issues facing children, young people and/ or families including:

* Mental health issues
* Physical health issues
* Emotional well being
* ASB/ crime issues
* Family functioning
* Domestic violence
* Substance misuse
* Housing issues
* Unemployment

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £12.50 per hour
