GSL Education are looking for a passionate Disability Support Worker for an outdoor education facility based near Poole. The school are committed to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for students of 16 and over with moderate to severe learning difficulties and disabilities. They believe in the power of education to transform lives, and their dedicated team plays a key role in helping the students reach their full potential. With a strong focus on inclusivity and respect, the school offers a wide range of outdoor learning opportunities including animal husbandry, equine studies, horticulture studies, agriculture and forest school learning. They also offer specialised therapy spaces and medical support, alongside a rich curriculum. Students benefit from small class sizes, collaborative planning between teachers and therapists, and a variety of enrichment activities designed to build confidence, independence, and personal growth.
The Ideal Disability Support Worker:
• Must be patient and reliable.
• Be able to work well in a team.
• Be proactive in meeting student's needs.
• Having 1:1 experience with children or adults with SEN is desirable, but not essential.
• Should be able to empathise with their pupils and be able to set a good example.
The Disability Support Worker Role:
• Supporting the teaching and learning of SEN pupils across the school, working with struggling pupils or those who have become stifled by the curriculum.
• Helping them meet their potential through smaller booster groups and 1:1 sessions.
• Supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
• Working closely with the SENCO to monitor and advance developments in both academic and social areas.
