Purpose of Job: To provide high quality, effective support to schools and families and promote positive outcomes for children and young people with Autism and Social Communication Difficulties & complex needs. Please complete the application form on our website

Main Responsibilities:

* Implement interventions for individuals in schools/ settings, across Norfolk, as directed by the Consultant Practitioner.
* Monitor and report progress of pupils on caseload to Consultant Practitioner and demonstrate effectiveness of support
* Provide support to settings/schools in order to improve outcomes of children with Autism and Social Communication Difficulties
* Liaise with professionals in schools/settings in order to ensure a co-ordinated approach in support of children and their families.
* To contribute to training for settings/schools
* Attend regular meetings with Consultant Practitioner
* Report to Consultant Practitioner on the progress of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to demonstrate effectiveness and the efficient use of resources.
* Comply with Alpha Inclusion regulations and policies to ensure safe and professional practice.
* Creation of teaching resources.
* On occasion, the transportation of children and young people.
* The driving of The Block Bus (a converted vehicle) and delivery of interventions on the vehicle and remotely.
* Contribute to the culture and support of the small team, carrying out other duties as needed as requested by the Team Lead or Office Manager.
* Commit to ongoing personal and professional development to ensure services remain effective and up-to-date with current practice and legislation.
* To create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation that all staff will promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

* Children and young people, on caseload, to achieve and learn to their full learning and participation potential
* Children, on caseload, feel safe, enjoy their setting/school and make a positive contribution
* Settings/schools developing their understanding of Autism and Social Communication Difficulties
* Settings/schools are supported in developing their good practice for supporting children with Autism and related difficulties.

Essential Requirements:

Knowledge & Experience

* Extensive experience of working in educational setting/s, in a role equal to that of a Higher Level Teaching Assistant.
* Specific knowledge of Autism and related Social Communication Difficulties through direct experience of working with children & young people.
* A good understanding and experience of using strategies to successfully support children & young people with Autism
* Ability to identify and analyse the underlying issues that may lead to underachievement and barriers to learning and participation.
* Experience of planning, implementing and monitoring interventions with individuals and groups of children.
* Awareness of strategies to use to support the inclusion of children and young people with Autism and Social Communication Difficulties.
* Knowledge and experience of working with multi-agency partners
* Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
* A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent including the following: email Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, Internet Explorer or equivalent.
* Have a willingness to learn new applications and technology as appropriate.
* Able to demonstrate knowledge and/or experience of equalities and diversity issue
* Owing to lack of public transport in Norfolk, the successful candidate must have a full driving licence and access to a car – or be supported so they are enabled to travel between various educational settings.

Desirable Requirements:

Knowledge & Experience

* Knowledge of PECS, Makaton and TEACCH approach
* Knowledge of SEN code of practice 2014, including EHCPs
* Experience of delivering training as INSET or CPD
* Experience of working with children and young people across a broad age range (3 – 16 yrs)

The post holder is subject to Child Protection Legislation and Criminal Records Bureau checks.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
