Carers Federation Ltd is a national charity and Company Limited by Guarantee established in 1992 to empower Carers, the people for whom they care and the wider community. The charity is managed by a Board of Trustees elected by our membership.

Carers Federation has successfully been awarded a 3‑year contract by Gateshead Council and North East and Cumbria ICB to deliver an all‑age carers support service for unpaid carers living in and around Gateshead. The successful applicant will be part of a dynamic and passionate team with a commitment to identifying and supporting Young Carers both within the community and educational settings.

Salary: Grade 1b £9,735.81 increasing to £9,944.59 following 6 months probation

Job Purpose

You will be office‑based but will also be expected to out and be present within the Gateshead community and education settings raising the profile of Young Carers.


Responsibilities

* Raise the profile of Young Carers within the education setting
* Deliver school assemblies
* Deliver awareness training within schools
* Help and empower young carers in building their confidence
* Use own initiative when managing appointments, meetings etc.
* Understand safeguarding of children & adults and safeguarding referral process
* Work within a multi‑agency approach as and when required
* Have good communication skills
* Good computer skills and accurate record keeping
* Ability to manage own workload
* Confident, conscientious, enthusiastic
* Confidence in delivering presentations
* Ability to articulate and promote Young Carers in education settings
* Ability and confidence in leading and developing education network meetings
* Understanding of young carers and their diverse needs
* Have a level of resilience when dealing with emotional and practical pressures of the young carer support worker role
* Previous experience working with children
* Willingness to access relevant training as part of personal development
* Support with the delivery of Young Carer group and activities during school holidays

Due to the expectation of traveling it is highly desirable that you are a driver/car user and willing to travel on occasions long distances.
