Job summary
This is an opportunity to join the Newham Early Intervention Service, part of the Adult Mental Health Directorate on a fixed-term basis until end of September 2026 - up to 11 months depending on start date. The post has become available due to the substantive post-holder temporarily reducing their hours. The post holder will job share with the substantive consultant, preferably working Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver:
* Consultant led assessment and management of service users within the Early Intervention Service.
* Highly effective clinical leadership.
* Advice and consultation to colleagues.
* Training and education.
* Supervision of specialty doctors.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Fully registered with the General Medical Council
* On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of eligibility to apply.
* Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983 and Approved Clinician status, or eligible to apply once in post
Desirable
* Higher training in approved training posts for minimum of 3 years and/or previous consultant training.
* Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
* CCT in general adult psychiatry.
* Endorsement in liaison psychiatry
* Endorsement in old age psychiatry
Knowledge
Essential
* Experience of clinical work in General Adult Psychiatry at ST4-6 or Consultant level within the last 3 years
* Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
* Appreciation and understanding of ethnic minority issues and a commitment to developing culturally sensitive practices
* Understanding of social factors relevant to psychiatry
* Experience of working in liaison psychiatry
