As a Building Surveyor/Architect, you’ll work on some of the North’s most treasured historic properties and built assets, from castles to country houses and landscape features.This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months. What it's like to work here
You’ll work as part of the North Conservation Specialist Delivery Team which provides property groups with advice and practical delivery support across the full range of conservation, access and growth projects and initiatives. You’ll bring to the team conservation building/architectural knowledge, a prominent level of experience and the ability to work at pace in complex technical situations.Your contractual location will be our Newcastle Hub and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. Expect to be onsite at properties across the region about 2-3 days a week. Due to the travel required in this role, you will need to consider how you will be able to get to remote locations. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview.
What you'll be doing
You’ll support a wide range of conservation and compliance projects across the North East and wider region. You’ll lead every stage of project delivery, from early planning through to completion, ensuring that work is carried out to the highest conservation standards. Alongside this, you’ll undertake condition assessments, provide practical advice, and collaborate with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for our historic buildings.

Who we're looking for
An experienced Chartered Construction professional; RICS/CIOB/ARB/RIBA• Familiar with Construction Project Management tools and show an ability to mitigate risk as proven by strong experience of contract management and contract administration in a supervisory capacity. • People and influencing skills, in multi-disciplinary teams which will also include specialists from non-construction communities, with an ability to build strong relationships externally and internally and experience of working with external agencies, contractors and organisations.• Strong knowledge of relevant legislative requirements relating to the role.• Capable, from direct experience, of managing and recognising quality work from external consultants in the role of a Client Construction lead. • Professional collaborators who enjoy working with and learning from others- drawing on peer support and using mentoring and coaching skills.• Able to show experience of financial responsibility for significant projects with exemplary data management.
