Mechanical Fitter (Contract) – Waste Recycling
Location: Knaresborough, North Yorkshire
Rate: £45–£50 per hour DOE
Contract: Initial 3-month contract (strong potential for extension based on performance and site requirements)
Shifts (rotating):

Week 1: 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
*
Week 2: 10:00pm – 6:00am, Monday to Friday
*
Flexibility required: Must be willing to work 12-hour shifts when requested to support operational needs.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to support a busy waste recycling facility based in Knaresborough. You will play a key role in keeping mechanical assets operating safely and efficiently through planned and reactive maintenance, fabrication work, and outage support.
Key Responsibilities

Rectify faults and carry out repairs on mechanical assets including conveyor belts, pumps, gearboxes, valves and cranes.
*
Carry out fabrication work, refurbishment and general workshop duties.
*
Deliver PPM (planned preventative maintenance) and reactive maintenance, ensuring the highest standards are maintained at all times.
*
Assist with and actively participate in planned outages/shutdowns.
*
Operate workshop machinery and support fabrication and refurbishment tasks as required.
*
Communicate mechanical problems and concerns promptly to line management to ensure swift resolution.
*
Support delivery of Maintenance Team KPIs and site performance targets.
*
Effectively use the site CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) for logging, reporting, and task updates.
*
Participate in team briefings and toolbox talks to ensure aligned and safe working practices.
*
Maintain full compliance with site Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental standards, policies, and procedures.
*
Work safely and efficiently under a safe system of work and in line with site rules.
*
Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses in accordance with site procedures.
Qualifications
*
Time-served Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Engineer
*
Mechanical Technical Apprenticeship
*
Level 3 NVQ / BTEC / equivalent in Maintenance Engineering
*
CSE/GCSE (or equivalent)
*
IOSH Managing Safely – desirable
Skills & Experience
You will have proven hands-on experience working with mechanical systems in an industrial environment, ideally within recycling, waste, aggregates, FMCG, heavy engineering, or similar sectors.
