RME Intern, Reliability Maintenance Engineering

Job ID: 10389317 | Amazon Commercial Services Pty Ltd

RME is the backbone of Amazon’s operations, ensuring millions of packages reach customers on time. As an RME Intern, you’ll be part of the team that keeps our sophisticated automation and infrastructure running smoothly—work that directly enables Amazon to deliver its promise to customers every single day. The Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) Intern will play a hands‑on role in keeping Amazon’s Fulfilment Centre (FC) running at peak performance. Working alongside experienced Engineering Technicians, you’ll gain exposure to both reactive and proactive maintenance across a wide range of automated systems and facilities infrastructure. You will contribute to real projects, troubleshoot complex equipment issues, and see firsthand how equipment reliability directly impacts site productivity, throughput, and customer experience.

The duration of the internship will run over a consecutive 12 weeks from December 2026 to February 2027. This internship offers more than just technical experience—it’s a launchpad for your engineering career at Amazon.

Key job responsibilities

* Gain hands‑on experience developing and delivering preventive maintenance programs
* Learn to install, maintain, and troubleshoot all FC systems including power distribution, automated material handling equipment, conveyance, packaging machines, labelling machines, HVAC and other operational equipment
* Work directly with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting any of the following: relay logic, ladder diagrams, controls components, sensors & scanners, motor starters, relays, limit switches, proximity sensors, solenoids, servo drives, frequency inverters, linear drives, sorters and encoders
* Develop practical skills working on PLCs and PLC programs, with opportunities to troubleshoot ladder logic, components (CPU back plains, I/O boards, counters, modules, and devices) and communications modules (Ethernet)
* Act as an ambassador for safety within the team and promote safe working across the site
* Build expertise in repairing and maintaining bus systems such as profibus and asibus
* Develop and maintain strong working relationships across all levels in the organisation
* Demonstrate ability to prioritize and manage tasks under high pressure
* Support data collection and analysis of equipment performance metrics (e.g., OEE) to identify improvement opportunities
* Participate in team meetings, safety huddles, and shift handovers
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis

Basic Qualifications

* Currently in your penultimate year of an undergraduate or postgraduate university degree/qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical majors) or similar technical discipline
* Any exposure to hands‑on experience or previous work experience/internship in a maintenance‑focused role
* Any experience or exposure to using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to plan proactive maintenance and record reactive tasks
* Understanding OEE and equipment performance metrics
* Solid foundational knowledge of PLC‑based control systems
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Problem‑solving mindset with proactive issue resolution
* Ability to demonstrate curiosity and pro‑activity, which will allow you to gain greater autonomy during the internship and make the most of your time with us to fully achieve your learning and development goals

Preferred Qualifications

* Demonstrated ability to multi‑task and prioritise many different projects and workload
* Must be highly self‑motivated and customer‑centric
* Understanding of Six Sigma principles
* Exposure working in a multi‑site environment
* Knowledge in OEE and EAM tools
* Previous work experience – a summer job, internship; if it’s an experience in a related field or business, even better
