Prospect Research Manager
Full-time, Hybrid (at least 2 days per week onsite)
Permanent
£43,317 per annum

Introducing the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a prospect research manager to join the British Museum’s Development department as Research and Fundraising Priorities Manager.

The British Museum was the first national public museum of the world. With an insatiable curiosity it drives the Museum to tell stories with two million years of history. In 2024, the British Museum in Camden received 6.5 million visitors, more than any other museum in the UK. Against this backdrop, the Museum is now undergoing an extraordinary transformation, both intellectual and physical, and there could not be a more meaningful time to join.

The British Museum has built a reputable prospect research function which supported both Development and the Museum’s wider management. Your research will strategically harness information and data to drive fundraising decisions by providing insight-led research and information on funding priorities. This position plays a key role in the Museum’s strategic planning.

Key areas of responsibility

1. Deliver fantastic research support and insights to the Development department through the provision of a range of research outputs
2. Continue to develop the Museum’s Portfolio of Fundraising Priorities, ensuring that Development has access to the information required to strategically plan its fundraising
3. Provide profiles on promising leads for the Museum and strategically prioritise and focus efforts on such opportunities
4. Work on pipeline and portfolio reviews, combining KPI and prospect data, the Museum’s priorities and fundraising needs and other factors to make recommendations on optimal portfolio composition and management
5. Provide strategic prospecting data for forecasting purposes
6. Act as an advisor, offering the right research solutions to departmental objectives, plans and priorities
7. Ensure compliance across the Department through regular assessments of the Museum privacy policies

About you

8. Demonstrable experience in conducting Prospect Research and Due Diligence screening
9. Understanding of General Data Protection Regulation and Fundraising Code of Practice
10. Fantastic analytical and research skills with the ability to read and analyse significant amounts of data
11. Experience of working for a charity or not for profit organisation
12. Knowledge of research internationally and of donor motivations
13. Able to multitask, prioritise and delegate effectively with strong attention to detail
14. Able to propose, undertake, coordinate or interpret qualitative and quantitative research and present finding to internal audiences in a clear, concise and compelling manner
