Senior Service Designer - Health Sector
Salary: £50,000-£65,000 depending on experience
Design services that improve lives.
We're looking for an experienced Service Designer to join Healthia and shape digital services across healthcare projects. Design at scale and directly influence how people access and experience health services.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll work on service design projects from discovery to delivery within multidisciplinary teams, developing service blueprints that integrate with other services and working with service managers and programme directors to develop design concepts. You'll analyse, synthesise and clearly communicate complex evidence, use research and data to develop design ideas, and map existing services via user journey maps.
You'll build consensus around design approaches by challenging assumptions, engage and present findings to senior stakeholders, and document design decisions and risks. You'll plan and run design sessions with teams, users and stakeholders, facilitate workshops with clinical teams, and work across team and profession boundaries. You'll create storyboards and blueprints, prototype complex ideas, and adapt designs quickly to changing requirements.
What We're Looking For
You need 7+ years' service design experience, preferably in health, care or public sector, with proven experience leading service design projects with minimal support. Strong agile design practices and multidisciplinary teamwork are essential. Previous healthcare experience is desirable, along with understanding of healthcare pathways, clinical workflows, and health information governance.
You'll have expertise in service design methodologies including service blueprinting, user journey mapping, systems mapping, and co-design techniques. You'll understand accessibility standards, inclusive design principles, and Government service standards, with experience aligning work to organisational vision and strong prototyping skills. Excellent stakeholder relationship management, ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, strong presentation skills, and experience building consensus and managing difficult conversations are required.
You'll lead design work, communicate the value of user-centred design, and make informed decisions that help teams align to strategic objectives. You'll work effectively across disciplines and organisational boundaries, facilitate productive workshops, and share knowledge to support team learning. You'll balance user needs with organisational priorities, contribute to product roadmaps, and ensure designs meet accessibility regulations and ethical standards while maintaining design quality and documenting decisions.
You'll need to deliver outcomes within fixed time and budget constraints. This means making pragmatic decisions about scope, adapting your design approach when you can't do everything you'd ideally like to, embedding design activities into agile workflows, and ensuring projects remain successful for both clients and the business.
Working Arrangements
You'll work within multi-supplier teams, presenting to senior leadership while being mindful of commercial sensitivities. You'll manage stakeholders at multiple levels.
This is a permanent contract with a 6 month probation period. Right to live and work in the UK required. We offer hybrid working so you can be based anywhere in the UK with visits to our Bristol studio approximately once every 6 weeks.
