A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to work within the Bowel Cancer Screening Department. This is an ideal opportunity for those who would like to develop a career as a Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP).
The Bowel Cancer Screening Department covers both Trust sites: University Hospital Coventry, and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby, along with our satellite centres within North Warwickshire, and South Warwickshire Foundation Trust. This role will require independent travel between these regional centres.
Applicants will be expected to be up to date in their practice; able to develop their skills and contribute to the development of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as Specialist Screening Practitioner, facilitating the patient journey for those referred to the Centre with a positive FIT test.
* Provide patients with the required information to enable them to make appropriate choices for investigation and carry out health assessments in a clinical setting.
* Prepare and attend Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopy lists.
* Follow up patient episode post procedure.
* Conduct Nurse Led clinics.
* Assess patients, schedule procedures, collect data, discuss findings, arrange follow up and referral to other specialties, and support the patient throughout the screening journey.
Additional Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of FIT test positive patients within BCSP and Trust guidelines and policies.
* Support the BCSP Lead Nurse in improving service performance and developing new models of working that may influence participation in the BCSP.
* Deputise for the BCSP Lead Nurse when appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
* Current registration as a registered nurse.
* Good IT and organisational skills and the ability to communicate with both patients and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
* Essential to attend the Bowel Cancer Screening Specialist Practitioner course and undertake further training to fulfil SSP requirements.
