Fixed Term Locum Consultant Geriatrician

The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) seeks a Locum Consultant Geriatrician to cover a short‑term gap until January 2027. This role is part of the Department for Medicine of the Elderly (DME) and will support acute inpatient ward teams, specialist clinics, and multidisciplinary services across the Trust.
Job responsibilities
The Department is active in teaching medical students and postgraduate trainees, developing research programmes, conducting audits, and monitoring key performance indicators. In this role you will:
* Provide senior geriatric clinical care across acute inpatient wards and specialist clinics.
* Supervise and educate junior colleagues, including medical students, interns and specialty trainees.
* Participate in research projects and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
* Lead or contribute to regular audits and quality improvement initiatives.
* Support multidisciplinary teams in delivering coordinated care for frail older patients.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
* MBBS/MBCH and possess MRCP.
* Postgraduate thesis.
* Eligible for entry on GMC Specialist Register or due to receive, within 12 months, Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or CESR in Medicine for the Elderly at time of interview.
Clinical Experience
* 5 years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent programme, with high standard clinical skill in Medicine for the Elderly.
* Comprehensive technical competence in Medicine for the Elderly.
* Evidence of ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities.
Teaching Experience
* Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
Research Experience
* Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Management and Admin
* Experience of Audit Management.
