Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician

We are looking for an enthusiastic Gastroenterologist to co‑lead our Upper GI Cancer service as part of an exciting expansion of our service this year. The post comprises 7.625 Direct Clinical Activities and 2.375 Supporting Professional Activities. The holder will be on call for the acute gastrointestinal bleeding rota on a 1 week in 7‑8 basis covering THH and Harefield Hospital. Applicants must hold a CCT in Gastroenterology and GIM or be within 6 months of CCT.

Responsibilities
* Co‑lead the Upper GI Cancer service, vetting suspected cancer referrals and reviewing patients in clinics (face‑to‑face, telephone, paper or virtual).
* Participate in the bleeding rota; provide emergency out‑of‑hours Gastroenterology cover to Harefield Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital. Future planning may involve a regular on‑site commitment, with potential withdrawal from the Harefield commitment to focus on Hillingdon.
* Within a team, be jointly responsible for running an inpatient and outpatient service for gastroenterology and an advisory service for colleagues.
* Participate in training and professional development of medical and other professional staff, including postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and GP education.
* Continue professional development (CPD) and revalidation in line with guidance from the relevant professional bodies and clinical governance. Help the department meet JAG accreditation objectives.
* Ensure national waiting time targets are met with Gastroenterology Consultants.
* Provide clear evidence of SPA activities: clinical and educational supervision, audit, and personal CPD. Perform or lead at least one medical audit per year.
* Develop areas of specialist interest in Gastroenterology in accordance with service needs.
* Participate in the medical advisory and liaison work of the hospital Consultant Staff Committee and other relevant committees (e.g. Clinical Governance, Safeguarding Adults, Transfusion, Resuscitation, Medicines Management).
* Collaborate with the Lead Clinician and Senior Nurse Management Team in the development and implementation of department policies.
* Work with the consultant team in the recruitment and appointment of junior medical staff, guiding deployment and supervision and supporting use of Trust digital systems.
Person Specification
* Full GMC Registration with License to Practice.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* CCT (or within 6 months of CCT) or on the Specialist Register; accredited in both General Medicine and Gastroenterology, or CESR, or European Community Rights.
* Broad experience in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
* Experience and competence in diagnostic & therapeutic upper (including GI bleeds) and lower GI endoscopy.
* Experience in management of Upper GI Cancer patients.
