Consultant Histopathologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Cellular Pathology at North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS). We are looking for consultants in Cellular Pathology to join the existing team of 23 pathologists. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates with subspecialist reporting interests or experience to fit in with the needs of existing subspecialist reporting teams covering a large, comprehensive and exciting range of diagnostic surgical and non‑gynae cytology work.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include supporting specialist reporting teams, working across subspecialties, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, engaging in digital pathology initiatives, and contributing to clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (and licence to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligibility for registration within six months of interview.
* UK‑trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award.
* Non‑UK‑trained applicants required to show equivalence to the UK CCT.
* FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
* Higher medical degree (PhD/MD).
Clinical Experience & Training
* Recent, wide experience and completion of specialist training in general histopathology and morbid anatomy.
* Good writing and presentation skills.
* Willingness to develop a special interest area in line with current service needs.
* Specialist reporting experience in GI, dermatopathology, gynaecological pathology, pulmonary pathology, breast pathology, urological pathology, head and neck pathology, and soft tissue and bone pathology.
* Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Recognised teaching skills or medical education qualification.
Academic Achievements, Research, Publications
* Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit.
* Evidence of having undertaken original research.
* Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last five years.
Management and Administrative Experience
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
* Strategic planning and sound judgement under conflicting pressures.
* Ability to motivate and develop a multi‑disciplinary team.
* General exposure to managerial issues.
* Commitment to corporate responsibility.
* Able to support the Clinical Director of Pathology.
* Prior management experience.
Clinical Effectiveness
* Experience of conducting clinical audit.
* Use of evidence base and audit to support decision‑making and implementation of change.
Teaching and Training Experience
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical staff and students across disciplines.
* Training in medical education.
* Experience supervising trainee pathologists.

* Ability to work effectively with colleagues within a team.
