The Workforce Retention and Credentials Support Specialist will provide critical support to programs and initiatives that enhance learners' academic success, retention, course completion, and credential attainment. This position utilizes intrusive advising and support techniques to guide learners through all academic and credential attainment challenges in all Workforce Development noncredit programs and maintains records of all earned credentials for reporting to the VCCS.
This is a full-time restricted classified position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability.
This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX). Minimum Qualifications:
1. Experience providing student or learner support services in an educational or workforce setting.
2. Experience in student advising, coaching, case management, or retention support.
3. Experience using proactive or intrusive advising techniques, including learner outreach and follow-up.
4. Experience conducting outreach activities, including phone, email, or other direct learner engagement strategies.
5. Experience with record-keeping, documentation, and basic data tracking.
6. Experience working with diverse and adult learner populations.
7. Experience supporting initiatives related to student persistence, completion, or credential attainment metrics.
8. Relevant work-related experience
Knowledge
9. Knowledge of Workforce Development course requirements offered by the College.
10. Knowledge of best practices in academic advising, student development, and student learning outcomes.
11. Knowledge of data tracking and reporting for institutional or system-level accountability.
12. Knowledge of workforce development programs, noncredit education structures, and credentialing pathways, particularly within the VCCS.
13. Understanding of student retention strategies, including intrusive advising and case management approaches.
14. Knowledge of academic and career support services, barriers to completion, and strategies for adult learner success.
15. Familiarity with credential tracking systems, data collection, and reporting requirements for state and federal performance metrics
