3 month contract role with a Local Authority Job Summary: • A Senior Social Worker is required to support the Duty and Assessment Team at Shropshire Council. • The role involves undertaking statutory social work responsibilities for children and families, including assessments, safeguarding investigations, and court-related work. • The successful candidate will manage a caseload involving child protection and children in need cases, ensuring that all work is completed in line with legislation, safeguarding procedures, and best practice. • The position operates on a hybrid basis, with office attendance required during duty weeks. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): • Undertake statutory social work assessments including Single Assessments (SWA). • Carry out safeguarding investigations under Section 47 and other relevant legislation. • Complete court-related reports including Section 7 and Section 37 reports where required. • Undertake Child in Need (CIN) assessments and contribute to Child Protection (CP) processes. • Attend and contribute to core groups, case conferences, and multi-agency meetings. • Prepare court statements and care plans where cases proceed to an initial court hearing. • Manage and prioritise caseloads within the Duty and Assessment Team. • Conduct home visits, risk assessments, and follow-up visits with children and families. • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure safeguarding and appropriate service provision. • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with organisational standards. • Participate in the duty rota (every other week), which requires office-based working. Skills/Experience: • Qualified Social Worker with relevant professional registration (Social Work England). • Significant experience within children’s social care, particularly in Duty and Assessment teams. • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, and child protection procedures. • Experience completing statutory assessments and safeguarding investigations. • Ability to prepare high-quality reports and court documentation. • Experience working with multi-agency partners and attending safeguarding meetings. • Strong assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills. • Ability to manage a complex caseload effectively and meet statutory deadlines. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Additional Information: • Rate: £30.57 per hour (Umbrella). • Hours: 37 hours per week. • Location: Mount McKinley Building, Shropshire Council. • Working Pattern: Hybrid working with office attendance required during duty weeks (every other week). • Candidates must complete the DfE cover form; submissions without this will be rejected. • Bi-Weekly Payments.
