Job Description
We are partnered with an MEP design and build company specialising in data centers and mission critical sector. Due to continued growth, an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer is sought for a Wolverhampton-based role.
The position involves working within an experienced team, primarily office-based, responsible for developing and delivering mechanical designs that ensure safe and compliant site installations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Designing mechanical systems in line with fire strategy reports, local building regulations, and planning authority requirements.
* Participating in design team meetings.
* Conducting site surveys of existing installations where necessary.
* Producing heating/cooling (thermal modelling) and ventilation load calculations using industry software.
* Sizing and selecting AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, plate heat exchangers, etc.
* Calculating above ground drainage and sizing drainage systems.
* Sizing and selecting domestic hot and cold-water equipment (heaters, storage tanks, etc.).
* Producing pipe and duct sizing calculations using industry software or desktop spreadsheets.
* Sizing and selecting firefighting sprinkler and pumping systems (preferred but not essential).
* Preparing stage reports and presentations.
* Drafting Designer’s Risk Assessment and Mitigation Reports.
* Detailing mechanical layouts and schematics for construction.
* Meeting project delivery deadlines.
* Producing detailed design and survey reports.
Qualifications:
* Extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering building services within construction.
* Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.
* Strong knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS & EN Irish/UK standards or ASHRAE.
* Proficiency in design software such as Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES/TAS.
* Ability to adapt and work effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
* Excellent communication skills.
