Genetic counsellor

London
Great Ormond Street Hospital
Counsellor
Posted: 25 August
Offer description

The North East Thames Regional Genetics Service (NETRGS) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic Clinical Genetics Team as a 12-month fixed-term, full-time Band 7 Genetic Counsellor.

We are keen to help staff develop clinical areas of special interest, as well as build research and educational activities, subject to the requirements of the service.

Applicants should have previous experience managing an autonomous clinical caseload and should be registered with the AHCS, HCPC, or a recognized overseas body.

Our service is paperless, using the EPIC patient management system, which has allowed us to adopt a hybrid model of working.

Main duties of the job

You will provide high-quality genetic counselling to patients and families within the NETRGS region. You will be expected to act as an autonomous practitioner undertaking counsellor-led genetic clinics. You will also act as a role model and expert practitioner. Additionally, you will provide education and training to genetic and non-genetic healthcare professionals and other groups, promoting an innovative and progressive attitude towards continual improvement of the Genetics Service through research and evidence-based practice.

Working for our organisation

We are committed to making our workforce as diverse as the communities we serve and aim to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including people with Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic heritage, people with disabilities, and people from LGBTQ+ communities. By growing a diverse workforce, we can provide better care for children and young people at our hospital.

Our hospital fosters an open and inclusive environment. Staff are encouraged to engage with colleagues through networks such as REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage), ENABLED (Enhancing Abilities & Leveraging Disabilities Network), PRIDE, and Women’s networks, all sponsored by members of our Executive Management Team.

We aim to ensure all our people, regardless of background, are seen and heard. We seek applicants committed to inclusion and who value diversity as a strength.
