The exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Nursing Team. The team currently consists of 3 Practice Nurses, 1 Nurse Associate, 2 Health Care Assistants and a Phlebotomist. We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring Health Care Assistant to further enhance the team and join our friendly GP Practice. A team player with good clinical skills and an interest in further training and personal development are vital.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will workunder indirect supervision of the lead Practice Nurse and will undertaketasks and duties delegated by the lead Practice Nurse or suitably qualifiedregulated professional. They will work collaboratively with the GeneralPractice team to meet the needs of the patients, following policy andprocedures. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provisionof treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Job responsibilities
PrimaryResponsibilities
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. Theremay be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
* a.Undertake new patient health checks
* b.Support the practice nurse with health promotionprogrammes
* c.Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery,blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
* d.Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advisingpatients accordingly
* e.Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks asrequired
* f.Support the practice nurse with the management of chronicdisease clinics
* g.Carry out BMI checks as directed
* h.Act as a chaperone as required
* i.When trained, undertake venepuncture
* j.When trained, administer flu vaccinations
* k.Carry out ECGs as requested
* l.Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onwardtransportation
* m.Provide support during minor operations as required
* n.Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked andprepared for each session
* o.Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance withextant guidance
* p.Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas andsharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
* q.Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
SecondaryResponsibilities
Inaddition to the primary responsibilities, the healthcare assistant may berequested to:
* a.Participate in practice audit as directed by the auditlead
* b.Participate in local initiatives to enhance service deliveryand patient care
* c.Support and participate in shared learning within thepractice
* d.Complete opening and closing procedures in accordancewith the duty rota
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Healthcare Qualification (level 3 or 4)
* Qualified in Phlebotomy
Experience
* Experience working with the General Public
* Experience working in a healthcare setting
* Experience of working in Primary Care
