32 hours/week. Weekdays between 9am - 5pm (can offer flexibility)

An exciting new role has arisen in Navigo CommunityCAMHS - Young Minds Matter. The role has been developed to support our Crisisand Home Treatment team working with children and young people presenting withcomplex mental health and other difficulties. The role will support the team byworking with skilled practitioners to develop psychological formulations andtrauma-informed needs-based care plans for children and young people presentingin a crisis and/or with complex mental health difficulties. The role will bepart of a wider service strategy in CAMHS to work towards trauma-informed careas routine practice. The successful applicant will join an establishedsupportive psychology team, where CPD is actively encouraged.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with NavigoCAMHS Crisis and Home Treatment team, supporting the team to further developtheir psychological understanding of the needs of children and young peoplepresenting in a mental health crisis. The successful candidate will havestrengths in thinking about children, young people and families using acompassionate, trauma-informed lens, an ability to draw on a variety ofpsychological models to understand distress, and an ability to communicate thisunderstanding sensitively to families and professionals. The successfulcandidate will hold a small caseload of children or young people with complexmental health difficulties, within the context of support from the wider Crisisteam. They will deliver reflective supervision within the service, both in agroup and individually. As this is a newrole, the successful candidate will have influence as to how the role developsin the service with support from a Consultant Psychologist.

Job responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES /RESPONSIBILITIES:

To providehighly specialist psychological support, advice, and clinical supervision /consultation to the CAMHS Crisis / Home Treatment team and relevant partneragencies regarding children and young people (CYP) who would benefit from apsychological perspective regarding their needs and how to best support them.

To use theirhighly specialist psychological formulation skills and understanding oftrauma-informed care, to support the CAMHS Crisis / Home Treatment Team todevelop needs-led psychologically informed formulations and care plans.

To exercisefull responsibility and autonomy for the delivery of highly specialistpsychological assessments, treatment, consultation and joint working, forchildren and young people referred (internally) from the CAMHS Crisis / HomeTreatment team.

To exercisefull responsibility for the management of internal referrals for highlyspecialist psychological assessment, treatment, consultation and joint working.

To ensurethe systematic provision of a highly specialist psychology service to CYPreferred and accepted from the CAMHS Crisis / Home Treatment team.

To developand facilitate reflective supervision opportunities for their colleagues in theCAMHS Crisis / Home Treatment Team and the wider CAMH service to support staffand team wellbeing.

To providehighly specialist psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions forchildren and young people presenting in a mental health crisis and/or needinghome treatment or specialist support.

To hold asmall clinical caseload, offering highly specialist psychological support andinterventions both individually to children and young people and dyadically tochildren and young people and their parents/carers referred to the team, basedon thorough assessment and formulation.

To formulatepsychological treatment plans that are specific to each child and family, basedupon an analysis of complex factors concerning historical and developmentalprocesses contributing to the presentation, and selectively drawing onappropriate conceptual and theoretical models.

To deliverevidence based psychological treatments, monitoring outcome and modifying andadapting interventions drawing on a range of theoretical options.

Tocontribute to complex decision making around the childs emotional wellbeingand mental health needs with parent agencies and services .

To workautonomously and collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team around thechild, providing consultation, advice, guidance, support and teaching to otheragencies/professionals such as local authority social workers and inpatientproviders.

Tofacilitate multi-agency consultations and contribute to systemic thinkingwithin complex networks supporting children and young people in a crisis and/orrequiring high levels of support in relation to their mental health

To workclosely with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Crisis Team Lead tosupport the embedding of trauma-informed care and the Attachment, Regulationand Competency (ARC) framework into routine practice in the Crisis / HomeTreatment team.

To selectand administer highly specialist psychological assessments includingspecialised psychometric assessment (including skilled manipulation of testmaterial), neuropsychological assessments, self-report measures, asappropriate), structured observations, clinical interviews, and to interpretand integrate this highly complex data.

To supportthe work of Navigo CAMHS pathways, including management duties and providesupport and consultation for staff and service users as part of a duty managerrota when required.

To providewritten summaries and reports to the multidisciplinary team around the childfollowing assessment and consultation.

Beresponsible for ensuring clinical outcome data is routinely entered andappropriately collated, and guide the team in relation to the use andinterpretation of this data.

To lead onand contribute to service developmentwork.

To deputisefor the Consultant Clinical Psychologist when needed.

To provideclinical and managerial supervision to less experienced staff.

To assessand monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans. To providegeneral advice to other professionals on risk assessment and management.

Tocommunicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning theassessment, formulation and treatment plans, and to monitor and evaluateprogress during the course of care.

To provideclinical supervision for doctoral trainees and assistant psychologists and tocontinue to develop skills in the area of professional post-qualificationteaching, training and supervision of other staff in the delivery ofpsychological services.


Person Specification


Experience

* Extensive post qualification experience working as an Applied Psychologist with children and families.
* Extensive post qualification experience working with children in crisis or home treatment teams or with complex mental health needs in the community or inpatient settings.
* Extensive post qualification experience of delivering reflective supervision or specialist consultation/ training and advice within the service they work and/or partner agencies.
* Experience of being involved in service development and contributing to policy planning.


Additional Requirements

* Effective inter-personal skills and experience in supervising, mentoring and teaching.
* Work within the culture of improving working lives of children and young people with mental health needs.
* Evidence of continuing professional development as stated by HCPC and as recommended by the BPS.
* Able to demonstrate effective communication skills at all levels i.e. strategically and locally.
* Be able to demonstrate leadership/management skills at an advanced level.
* An interest in / experience of providing staff wellbeing support.


Knowledge

* Highly specialist knowledge of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions relevant to client group and settings, and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits underpinned by evidence based practice.
* Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area i.e. (NICE Guidelines on Self-Harm, Depression, Anxiety, Attachment Disorder, Complex PTSD, Eating Disorders, Psychosis or Schizophrenia).
* Extensive knowledge of issues related to equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice.
* Extensive knowledge of issues related to mental capacity, consent and confidentiality when working with children and young people.
* Specialist advanced knowledge of the clinical and practice issues for Children and Young People with complex mental health needs.


Qualifications

* Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic / educational / health psychology as accredited by the BPS.
* HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
* Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
* Additional specialist training related to working with children, young people and their families and carers.
* Additional qualification in relevant therapeutic interventions / approaches e.g. DBT, IPT, CBT, IFS, PBS, family therapy or systemic practice, EMDR, DDP / Theraplay.
* Leadership teaching / qualification.
* Registered member of BPS.
