Hayward Hawk are proud to be partnering with a high-growth, product-led technology organisation that is scaling its data platform and investing heavily in its transformation layer. They are now seeking a Senior Data Engineer (DBT Focused) to play a key role in bringing structure, performance, and reliability to a complex data estate. This is not a greenfield build. Its a real-world environment with legacy challenges, fragmented logic, and significant opportunity. The right person will thrive on turning ambiguity into architecture and complexity into clean, scalable models. The Role As a Senior Data Engineer, youll take ownership of the transformation layer, with DBT at the centre of the data stack. Youll design, refactor, and optimise data models that serve as the single source of truth for reporting and downstream analytics. You will be responsible for: Designing and maintaining scalable, well-tested DBT models aligned to best practice Refactoring embedded BI-layer SQL into modular, version-controlled transformation code Standardising inconsistent fact and dimension logic across multiple data sources Building robust data marts that power trusted reporting and operational decision-making Implementing data quality checks, testing frameworks, and CI/CD practices within DBT Working closely with stakeholders to translate business logic into engineered data assets Balancing immediate data reliability issues with longer-term platform improvements This role requires someone who thinks in terms of systems and architecture, not just queries. Youll be expected to challenge existing patterns, improve standards, and elevate the overall maturity of the data platform. What Were Looking For Strong commercial experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) including model design, testing, documentation, and optimisation Advanced SQL skills and deep understanding of transformation best practices Experience building and maintaining dimensional models in complex, imperfect environments Exposure to modern cloud data warehouses (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift or similar) Experience implementing data quality frameworks and version-controlled analytics engineering workflows Understanding of ingestion patterns and event-driven data pipelines Comfortable operating in environments with legacy systems and technical debt Strong communicator able to bridge engineering and business stakeholders Given the nature of the environment, this position is best suited to a senior-level engineer who is confident making architectural decisions and operating with autonomy. Culture Fit Comfortable bringing order to ambiguity Pragmatic, outcome-focused mindset Values clean engineering over quick fixes Collaborative and comfortable working with distributed teams What Youll Get Salary up to £60,000 DOE Remote working within Northern Ireland Real autonomy over the transformation layer Clear opportunity to shape data engineering standards and platform maturity Why Apply? This is an opportunity to take ownership of a critical layer within a growing product organisation. Your work will directly improve the reliability, performance, and trustworthiness of business-critical data. You wont just maintain models youll define how data engineering is done.
