Advanced Clinical Practitioner - Clinical Chemistry

We’re looking for a Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) with strong experience in clinical chemistry. This senior role will directly influence patient outcomes, support service development, and contribute to training and quality improvement.
You’ll provide expert knowledge, advise clinical teams and lead a team of clinical nurse specialists to deliver high‑quality, patient‑focused care.
The position is located at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUFT).
Main duties of the job
* Assess patients and plan, implement and evaluate care using specialist clinical knowledge and skills
* Review patients and provide care in outpatient and day‑ward settings
* Contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to patient management
* Provide education and support to patients, carers and colleagues
* Lead a team of clinical nurse specialists
* Participate in audit, research and service development within the service

Job responsibilities
* Perform independent specialist assessment of patients to formulate a diagnosis, plan and implement care and arrange ongoing follow‑up as an advanced practitioner using highly developed specialist clinical knowledge and skills.
* Independently manage a patient caseload, providing expert specialist assessment, planning and evaluation.
* Lead the multi‑disciplinary team in resolving patient problems, by providing new and innovative models of care.
* Act as a role model and expert clinician, providing in‑depth specialist clinical knowledge to colleagues through MDT meetings, for patients and carers/relatives.
* Provide innovative, enthusiastic leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues, promoting an open, honest, transparent culture.
* Improve the experience and outcomes of care for patients by taking the lead in investigations and treatments prescribed.
* Deliver a consistent and personalised service, ensuring that patients receive the best care, in the best place, from the best person or team.
* Provide social, emotional and psychological support for patients from referral and throughout treatment.
* Deliver expert specialist evidence‑based care including development, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation programmes of evidence‑based nursing care for a defined caseload.
* Make appropriate referrals to consultants/other specialists/members of the multi‑disciplinary team in primary, secondary or tertiary care settings.
* Be aware of risk management issues locally and nationally and develop strategies to address identified issues.
Qualifications
* Clinical professional qualification – degree level with appropriate registration
* MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) or started the MSc ACP pathway/programme and committed to completing within an agreed time frame. Note: Post holder will be in a training post (Annex 21) until evidence of completion of MSc ACP is provided.
* Teaching and assessing qualification
