We are working with a leading engineering company with their Head office in Hull. They specialise in the design, installation, and maintenance of building services and infrastructure, providing expert solutions through a team of commercial electricians and mechanical engineers.
We are recruiting for an experienced Commercial Manager to join their team.
About the Role
* Provide ongoing support and guidance to the Contract Managers, Estimation Department, Accounts, and other functions within the business.
* Manage and liaise with sub-contractors effectively.
* Assist with negotiations with sub-contractors, including pre-lets and purchase orders.
* Ensure site diaries are maintained and up to date by site teams.
* Attend internal commercial review meetings for key projects and liaise with client QS, financial, and site teams as necessary.
* Review and assess applications and variation logs before submission to clients.
* Ensure variations are processed promptly and kept current by Contract Managers.
* Support procurement activities, including purchasing materials and sub-contractors, obtaining sufficient quotes for effective decision-making.
* Monitor costs to ensure value for money across the business.
* Review client contracts, orders, or letters of intent upon receipt.
* Manage commercial contracts from receipt through to agreement, signing, project completion, and final account.
* Ensure sub-contractor terms align with GW client contracts where possible.
* Assist in delivering projects to high standards, on time, and within budget.
* Regularly assess projects to monitor progress and profitability.
* Track and measure project progress.
* Provide valuations and assessments to support client applications.
* Deliver client project update forms as per agreed frequency.
* Monitor project expenditure to ensure it remains within budget, applying cost-saving measures where possible.
* Provide necessary substantiation to clients.
* Identify and act on early warnings and contractual notices.
* Negotiate and agree final accounts with clients.
* Liaise with site teams, contracting, accounts, and clients to finalize accounts and ensure timely payments.
* Maintain transparency to foster positive working relationships.
* Collaborate closely with the financial controller to monitor project costs and other departments.
* Advise on margin improvement strategies for projects needing enhancement.
* Aim for positive cash flow across all projects.
* Proactively manage risks and opportunities within projects.
* Track variations and coordinate with departments to ensure legitimacy.
* Resolve disputes or claims efficiently.
* Identify and manage claims related to delays, disruptions, or scope changes in collaboration with others.
