Job Title: Assistant Headteacher
Location: Oak Tree School, Truro, Cornwall TR4 9NH
Salary: £52,000.00 per annum (not pro rata)
Hours: 42.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8:00am–4:30pm
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Start: February 2026

As part of our continued growth, we have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Headteacher to join our dedicated and close-knit team at Oak Tree School in Truro. This is an exciting chance to make a meaningful impact within a nurturing, inclusive, and ambitious school community.

About the Role

As Assistant Headteacher, you will support the Headteacher with both the strategic direction and day-to-day leadership of the school. You will help drive our mission to deliver high-quality education tailored to each pupil’s individual needs, ensuring they thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

Communicate and champion the school’s vision, values, and ethos

Contribute to the development of school aims, policies, and strategic objectives

Support the Headteacher in the operational leadership of the school

Monitor and evaluate school performance, teaching quality, and pupil outcomes

Lead, support, and develop staff to achieve whole-school goals

Manage resources effectively to drive continuous improvement

Leadership Expectations

Uphold public trust through the highest standards of ethics, conduct, and professionalism

Build strong, respectful relationships across the school community

Make decisions in the best interests of pupils and their learning journey

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Headteacher, you will:

Foster a positive, inclusive, and enriching school culture

Ensure high educational standards for all pupils, preparing them for future learning and life beyond school

Champion professional development and staff wellbeing

Promote high standards of behaviour through clear routines and positive relationships

Lead with fairness, integrity, and consistency in line with school policies

Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK or equivalent

Relevant degree

Proven leadership experience and a clear moral purpose

A collaborative, aspirational, and pupil-centred approach

About Us

Oak Tree School in Truro has recently expanded and developed two new buildings and undergone a successful inspection from Ofsted allowing us to offer a wider age range of pupils from 5 – 18 years the opportunity to have the best education possible. Oak Tree School is a specialist SEMH provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 135 pupils and young people aged 5 to 18 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These pupils and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with pupils accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs.

This opportunity is in Truro which is within commutable distance of Redruth, St Austell and surrounding areas.
