Job Title: Trainee Sales Engineer

Job Description
We are seeking an office and production facility based, Trainee Sales Engineer to join a commercial and customer-facing sales team. The role encompasses providing both commercial and technical support to internal and external customers on our products and systems. You will be a key part of the commercial sales team, involved in costing, quotations, managing sales orders, and acting as a liaison between Sales and Production.
The ideal candidate has a foundation in engineering or commercial vehicle knowledge, is a motivated team player, and can become an integral part of the organisation. There are opportunities for development and growth, with some current Sales Managers having followed a similar career path. There are opportunities to visit customer sites, attend trade shows and hospitality events, including dinners. Longer-term, there could also be opportunities to travel overseas. Career development is supported with access to internal and external training courses in various areas.
Key Responsibilities
* Commercial and daily support for the UK sales team and customer base.
* Coordinate with sales, engineering, procurement, production, vehicle testing and other departments.
* Assist with and generate quotations based on RFQs and queries.
* Provide technical and commercial guidance to the sales administration team and cover as needed.
* Build rapport with internal stakeholders and key external customers.
* Meet customers on site and accompany them when inspecting vehicles.
* Occasional travel to customer sites or exhibitions.
* Check vehicle specifications on arrival to ensure alignment with sales orders (e.g., gearbox and PTO).
Skills and Background (Required)
* Mechanical Engineering background (apprenticeship or equivalent).
* One or two areas of experience in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical engineering would be beneficial.
* Strong communication skills and a desire to succeed in a commercial role.
Skills and Background (Desirable)
* Experience as part of a sales team would be beneficial but not essential.
* Experience with ERP/software processing (e.g., SAP) would be beneficial.
* Experience using a CRM system (e.g., Salesforce) would be useful but not essential.
Key Competencies
* Computer literacy with Office software (Excel and PowerPoint preferred).
* Willingness to learn, grow, and integrate into the sales team.
* Aptitude for future development and progression opportunities.
* Comfortable liaising with customers and colleagues in the UK and overseas.
