Position Description:
This position involves daily animal care activities, husbandry, and support tasks to meet production goals, including:
1. Feeding animals, observing and identifying clinical concerns, and trimming nails.
2. Cleaning cages, using power wash and chemical dispensing equipment, and sanitizing facilities.
3. Milking rabbits and supporting production schedules.
4. Restraint of rabbits for care, transfers, and sampling.
5. Performing injections (IP, IM, IV, SC) and animal identification (ear tags, tattoos, RFID).
6. Supporting breeding procedures, including insemination and kindling/weaning.
7. Documenting information accurately using computer and paper systems.
8. Providing veterinary care and treatments as needed, based on skill level.
9. Identifying safety issues and animal welfare concerns, and initiating corrective actions.
10. Understanding animal care guidelines.
11. Weekend and holiday coverage on a rotating basis.
Qualifications:
o High School Diploma or GED required; 0-3 years laboratory animal experience preferred.
o AALAS ALAT certification preferred.
o Ability to work in a team, with attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
o Good communication skills, basic computer knowledge.
o Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push/pull carts up to 500 pounds, and stand or sit for extended periods.
o May be exposed to chemicals and allergens.
o Repetitive motion tasks involved.
