Job Description:
Principle / Senior Lighting Designer (full time)
Remote working for UK residents will be considered for this role.
We’re Ecological Lighting Solutions - a fast-growing, forward-thinking lighting design practice, based in Cornwall. Our objective is to create beautiful, wildlife-friendly lighting designs. We’re on the hunt for an experienced Lighting Designer who combines technical expertise with an excellent eye for detail, to lead our projects across residential, commercial, industrial, sports, and leisure sectors — with a focus on Dark Skies and ecological requirements.
You’ll be collaborating with architects and ecologists to develop detailed lighting designs using DialuxEvo and AutoCAD. If you're a self-starter who thrives on finding the right solution, balancing multiple projects, and working both independently and as part of a remote team, we want to hear from you!
The Role
You will be responsible for developing lighting design projects from concept to completion, including the following responsibilities:
* Crafting aesthetic, functional, and environmentally sensitive lighting design calculations using DialuxEvo
* Producing detailed layout drawings, with circuitry, via AutoCAD
* Completing luminaire and driver schedules
* Where appropriate, recommending control systems
* Collaborating with clients, ecologists, and architects
* Taking on occasional site visits
* Juggling multiple projects at once and meeting tight deadlines
This post requires a strong understanding of lighting principles, British Standards, and current lighting technology. This role has the opportunity for flexible working, enabling you to balance these responsibilities with your personal commitments.
Qualifications & experience
* Minimum of 5-years’ experience of working in lighting design (more experience is preferable).
* Minimum of a degree qualification in lighting design or a complimentary subject.
* IT savvy: You’re proficient in Dialux Evo and AutoCAD, and comfortable with using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
* Specialist knowledge: You have a solid grasp of lighting principles, British Standards and Guidance Notes.
* Communication pro: Your excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills make collaborating with team members and clients smooth and productive.
* Leader: Experience of managing a small team.
* Creative problem solver: You tackle challenges with logic and have a keen eye for detail.
* Adaptable: You’re quick to adapt, always focusing on delivering high-quality results at pace.
* Independent & driven: A self-starter who can lead and manage lighting design projects from concept to delivery and work independently, even under pressure.
* Project manager: You’re able to keep multiple plates spinning and prioritise to meet deadlines with quality outputs.
* Additional IT: You have experience of the design software SketchUp.
* Technology: An understanding of lighting control systems and options.
Package
* Annual leave: 22 days + your birthday + 8 bank holidays
