Overview

Bilfinger UK is a leading engineering and maintenance provider supporting customers across the chemical, petrochemical, nuclear, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, biopharma, power, utilities, renewables and food & beverage markets. We are seeking a Welding Engineer to join us at Hinkley Point C on a permanent staff basis. The position is site‑based Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week.


Responsibilities

* Welding Engineering & Technical Support
o Provide technical oversight for all welding activities related to pipework installation.
o Ensure welding operations are performed in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and project requirements.
o Provide technical guidance to welding supervisors, inspectors, and site teams.
o Support the resolution of welding‑related technical issues during construction.
o Review and interpret technical drawings, weld maps, and welding requirements.
o Attend training & education events—including seminars—to understand the latest developments in welding and apply them to the project.
o Complete any other duties as assigned by the Senior Welding Engineer.
* Welding Procedure Development & Qualification
o Support the development, review, and approval of welding procedures (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
o Ensure welding procedures meet applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
o Coordinate welding procedure qualification testing where required.
o Maintain records of approved welding procedures and ensure they are correctly implemented on site.
o Implement new technology/welding processes to aid in improving production.
* Quality Assurance & Weld Control
o Ensure welding activities comply with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and project quality requirements.
o Monitor weld quality performance—including weld rejection rates and defect trends.
o Support the investigation and resolution of welding defects and non‑conformances.
o Work closely with QA/QC inspectors to ensure proper inspection and testing of welds.
o Support production to resolve welding issues.
o Perform weld investigations.
* Materials & Metallurgy Control
o Ensure correct welding consumables and materials are used in accordance with approved procedures.
o Provide technical advice regarding material compatibility, preheat requirements, and heat treatment where applicable.
o Support control of welding consumables—including storage, handling, and traceability.
o Evaluate materials and problem‑solving techniques to overcome issues with design drawings or work‑pack requirements.
o Provide welding engineering support to construction teams during installation activities.
o Ensure welding operations are effectively integrated with construction sequencing and site operations.
o Assist the site in resolving technical installation issues related to welding.
o Oversee the machinery used by the welding team—including calibration, testing performance, and condition of installed mechanical equipment.
* Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
o Promote safe welding practices in accordance with project health and safety procedures.
o Ensure compliance with site safety standards—including hot work requirements and permit systems.
o Participate in safety briefings, inspections, and incident investigations where required.
* Performance Monitoring & Reporting
o Monitor welding productivity and performance metrics.
o Analyse welding data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
o Provide technical input into project progress reports.
o Maintain records relating to welding performance, inspection results, and defect analysis.
* Stakeholder & Interface Management
o Work closely with construction supervisors, QA/QC inspectors, planners, and logistics teams.
o Liaise with client representatives and third‑party inspectors regarding welding activities and compliance.
o Support coordination between engineering, construction, and quality teams.
o Ensure compliance of welding activities with approved procedures and project standards.
* Preparation of Technical Welding Engineering Documentation
o Effective resolution of welding technical issues.
o Support for mechanical completion and system handover.
* Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
o Weld rejection and defect rates.
o Compliance with welding procedures and inspection requirements.
o Timely completion of welding documentation and traceability records.
o Contribution to programme milestones and installation progress.
