Overview

We are looking to appoint an HCPC registered Consultant Clinical Psychologist to join our welcoming and psychologically minded team to provide a service of excellence for Children and Young People and their families within Hertfordshire mainly in Stevenage. This post brings a diversity of experience, from providing specialist assessments and intervention, to supporting other members of the psychology team across the county, and working closely with members of the wider multi-disciplinary team. It forms a key part of a well established and stable leadership team with particular responsibility for quality care and governance. The ideal candidate for us will be someone who shares our values about offering high quality, evidence based, compassionate and trauma-informed services, whether in the psychological therapies or the neuropsychological assessment aspect of the service. The ethos of the team is one of continuous quality improvement and co-producing what our clients require, and we are looking for candidates who share a passion for service development and innovation. We hope that candidates will bring skills and knowledge to support audit, research, and project development within the service.


Responsibilities

* Completion of specialist psychological assessment (including risk assessment) and treatment of clients referred to the service.
* Provide highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to a service users formulation, diagnosis and case management plan.
* Provide professional and clinical supervision to Psychologists working in the service as well as management supervision to other psychological therapists within the team.
* Support psychological aspects of service development, evaluation, research and teaching and maintain standards in supervision and CPD.
* Fulfill a key leadership role within the team and across the wider psychology professional group, with a focus on collaboration and service improvement.
* Lead in professional leadership for Practitioner Psychologist staff within CAMHS, including recruitment, supervision governance and maintaining professional standards through HCPC and BPS guidance and Trust policies.
* As a member of the Quadrant Senior Leadership team, work with the quadrant MDT to provide professional leadership for psychological therapy staff and develop psychological services in accordance with CAPA and CYP-IAPT principles.
* Provide specialist assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and their families to a consultant level of expertise, based on sound psychological principles and techniques.
* Provide specialist consultation to team members and external agencies to a consultant level of expertise.
* Lead in the evaluation and monitoring of the utilisation of Practitioner Psychologists and coordinate research programs within this area, seeking funding where appropriate.
* Initiate, lead and support the development of evidence-based practice within psychology and wider CAMHS, ensuring cultural responsiveness, equity, accessibility, and consistency.
* Proactively lead and influence broader psychological work within the wider CAMHS workforce, advising on training and support for the wider staff group, ensuring staff work in accordance with CAPA and CYP-IAPT principles and practice.
* Hold a caseload including highly complex cases and deliver safe and effective clinical practice within the designated area via a structured programme of Clinical Governance.


Qualifications

* Upper second class honours degree or higher in Psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society. Further post-graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice or research design and analysis. Experience of work with people with mental health problems.
* Experience of working in services providing therapeutic input to children/young people (e.g., CAMHS).
* Experience of using computers for data-analysis, especially Excel and SPSS for Windows.
* Ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines and with clients in a respectful and empathic manner. Team player with an interest in working with children with mental health or behavioural problems. High level of written and verbal communication skills, including in emotionally challenging settings.
* Understanding of the needs and difficulties of children and young people with mental health problems and appropriate therapy models.
* Ability to communicate sensitive information to service users, carers and colleagues respectfully and empathically.
* Ability to assess common mental health problems.
* Desirable criteria: Experience of CYP-IAPT and PC-MIS; experience and knowledge of undertaking audit in clinical services; experience of line management.
