We are looking for a motivated, compassionate, and enthusiastic Band 5 nurse or practitioner to join the Outpatient Assessment Centre and Minor Procedure Suite at University Hospitals Dorset (St Mary’s site). This is a unique opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team providing care across a wide range of specialties, including: · Urology · Trauma & Orthopaedics · Dermatology · Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) · And other surgical/medical specialties This role would suit someone who has experience in the theatre setting or in any of the specialities. The service is focusing on how we can deliver diagnostic care and treatment in new ways, so an enthusiasm for innovation is essential. We’re looking for a compassionate, proactive person who demonstrates strong team work skills and a commitment to continuous improvement. Interview Date: 9th December Main duties of the job Clinical Care Delivery · Provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing minor procedures across multiple specialties. · Prepare patients, equipment, and procedure areas in line with infection prevention and control policies. · Assist in minor surgical and diagnostic procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout. · Monitor patients during and after procedures, recognising and responding to changes in condition. · Provide discharge information and advice in accordance with Trust policies and individual care plans. · Administer medications and treatments in line with Trust protocols and NMC guidelines. · Ensure accurate and timely documentation of nursing assessments, care provided, and post-procedure outcomes. · Assist in setting up and smooth running of clinics and support Health care support workers. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Teamwork and Communication · Work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team, liaising with consultants, advanced clinical practitioners, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff. · Participate in daily team briefings, safety huddles, and handovers to ensure continuity and safety of care. · Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and carers, offering reassurance and answering queries. · Escalate any clinical concerns promptly to senior nursing or medical staff. Patient Safety and Quality Improvement · Adhere to all Trust policies related to patient safety, infection control, safeguarding, and medicines management. · Participate in audits, patient feedback surveys, and quality improvement initiatives to support service development. · Report incidents, near misses, or risks using the Trust reporting systems and contribute to any follow-up or learning. Professional Development · Take responsibility for maintaining NMC registration and completing revalidation requirements. · Engage in mandatory training and continuing professional development (CPD) activities. · Take part in supervision, appraisal, and learning opportunities to develop clinical skills and knowledge. · Support junior staff and student nurses, acting as a positive role model within the team. Working Conditions / Physical Demands · Required to stand and walk for most of the shift, with some moving and handling of equipment and patients. · Exposure to bodily fluids and clinical environments such as procedure rooms and recovery areas. · Some exposure to emotionally challenging situations when supporting patients and families. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Registration on Part 1 or 12 of NMC Register (RGN/RN Adult) or equivalent Desirable criteria Diploma/Degree in relevant subject. Mentoring and Assessing course Evidence of ability to teach in practice. Experience Essential criteria Minimum of 1 years post registration in an acute area or in a wound care role Evidence of supervising staff Delivering care as planned and in keeping with the needs of the patient Evidence of delegating workload and monitoring progress Experience of handling difficult situations Ensuring adequate and accurate patient documentation and records are maintained Desirable criteria Experience of mentoring students Experience of performing staff appraisals scrub skills recovery skills pre and post op Knowledge Essential criteria Assess the needs and plan the care of patients, evaluating progress to ensure the care remains appropriate and facilitate colleagues in these processes. Evidence based theoretical knowledge in wound care in order to apply to practice. Good understanding of the deteriorating patient and instigating appropriate treatment. Comprehensive applied anatomy and physiology to practice Good knowledge of NMC standards and limitations of practice. Knowledge of Clinical governance. Knowledge and understanding of Trust values Technical Skills Competencies Essential criteria Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, visitors and members of the wider MDT. Ability to perform wound care including complex dressings, removal of clips and sutures. Demonstrate physical dexterity and accuracy to undertake a range of clinical procedures appropriate to grade and speciality Assessment of clinical needs Ability to record and understand patient’s clinical observations taking or instigating appropriate action Effective organisation skills including time management and prioritising Ability to recognise opportunity to teach and deliver training session Good computer skills including Microsoft office packages Personal Attributes Essential criteria Willing ness to learn new skills and develop Demonstrates motivation skills
