We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Training & Communications Officer to join the growing Health & Safety team.
The purpose of this role is to contribute towards the provision of high-quality support service to all University users to enable University business to be carried out safely and effectively whilst also enabling the demonstration of statutory compliance with current legislation.
We are seeking an enthusiastic team worker who can work independently and as part of a team. You will be friendly, proactive, and self-motivated. In addition, the successful candidate will possess excellent planning, organisation and communication skills.
The role holder will work together with colleagues within the team and around the university to develop an innovative and effective Health & Safety training programme and develop a strategic communications plan to promote a positive Health & Safety culture at the University of Nottingham.
As the H&S Training and Communications Officer you will:
* Assess the Health & Safety training needs across the University, identifying training gaps and priorities
* Develop and deliver internal H&S training courses to all levels of staff whilst identifying topics where an external training provider is required
* Monitor the effectiveness of the training programmes and implement any changes needed
* Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, internally and externally
* Implement effective communication strategies and promote health & safety initiatives
* Collaborate with colleagues across the university to do joint communications, for example working with the Occupational Health provider and the OH manager.
* Being a driving force for internal and external H&S events for the team and the wider university
You will bring:
* Ability to develop training courses using a variety of training methods
* Extensive level of IT skills, including MS Office suite & online training software (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams)
* Knowledge of training theory and how to meet the training needs in a complex environment with a diverse workforce, ensuring a satisfactory level of understanding from trainees
* Ability to tailor training programmes to a variety of hazards and risks according to the needs of the trainees and specific working environment
* Ability to build working relationships within the department, contacts around the University and external stakeholders and providers
* Ability to create engaging and informative communication materials for internal stakeholders, promoting a positive Health & Safety culture and ensure compliance to internal procedures to all levels of staff
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team to develop the training programmes and communication strategies

The post is offered as a secondment contract until 31st July 2026 with a potential of an extension, if required on a full time hours per week) basis. The role is offered with a hybrid approach subject to operational needs.
