Further Information Are you looking for a rewarding, meaningful, and dynamic role working with young people? Ready to kickstart your career, earn while you learn, and make a real impact in your community?

Launch Your Own Career and Make a Difference to Others
Consider a Career Development apprenticeship in Information, Advice and Guidance working with teenagers!

Whether you're just starting out or looking for a fresh direction, our apprenticeships are designed to help you thrive. Every task you take on, every skill you develop, and every idea you contribute helps shape brighter futures for young people across Stockton-on-Tees.

At Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, we’re not just offering you an apprenticeship - we’re offering a launchpad for your future. We are a bold, brave, and innovative council, united by our values — working as one team, embracing diversity, delivering on our promises, striving for excellence, and putting our community at the heart of everything we do

Our Careers Team supports young people in local schools and through their transitions into college, training, apprenticeships, university, and employment.

As a Trainee Careers Adviser, you’ll have the opportunity to work one-to-one with young people across schools, colleges, and those who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). You’ll manage a caseload of targeted and vulnerable young people, helping them overcome individual barriers to learning and supporting them to reach their full potential.

Your role will involve assessing needs, developing personalised plans, and delivering tailored support. You’ll also contribute to the delivery of Careers Education programmes in schools and colleges, helping to shape the future of young people in our community.

This is our fifth consecutive year of employing an apprentice, so you’ll be joining a team that truly understands the journey. You’ll work alongside colleagues who have taken this path themselves, gaining invaluable insight and support from a highly supportive, capable, friendly, and experienced team.

Please note this is a fixed term apprenticeship for up to 30 months

What skills and experience do you need?

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working for our community and has the following qualifications / experience:
1. Level 3 qualification or higher (in any subject or sector)
2. Minimum qualifications of English and Maths at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grade 4/C or above / Functional Skills Level 2)
3. Good communication and teamwork skills
4. Commitment to the full duration of the apprenticeship — showing reliability, motivation, and readiness to balance work and study responsibilities
5. Willingness to learn and develop new skills - apprenticeships are designed for those ready to grow through hands-on experience and training
6. Ability to organise own workload and work effectively under pressure
7. Ability or willingness to work towards independent travel around and outside of the Borough
Please outline in your personal statement how you meet this criteria.

This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

What can we offer you?

We offer our apprentices an excellent reward package including:
8. A competitive salary while gaining a nationally recognised qualification
9. 27 days annual leave per year (plus bank holidays).
10. Learn from experienced professionals who are passionate about public service
11. Access to mentoring, training, and personal development opportunities
12. Discounts at high street and online retailers
13. FREE Physiotherapy and Counselling services plus many other Wellbeing benefits.Hybrid Working – After a 6-month probation, you can work part of the week from home, though regular attendance at schools, colleges, or council offices will be required based on service needs.
