NHS Lanarkshire is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for Modern Apprenticeships in Professional Cookery within University Hospital Wishaw.
Annex 21 - As a trainee your pay is determined as a percentage of pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms and conditions so you will be paid 70% of the salary in year 1.
Key Details:
* Location: University Hospital Wishaw
* Duration: Fixed term post for 12 months
* Eligibility: Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 years old on 1st of October 2025, (or up to 29 years for applicants who have a disability or those with *care experience) are eligible. Must demonstrate proficiency at SCQF Level 5/National 5 Level.

What We Offer:
* Training: Gain invaluable on-the-job training to develop a diverse range of catering skills.
* Qualification: Work towards achieving a SCQF Level 5 qualification in Professional Cookery with City of Glasgow College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
* Support: You will be well supported on this Modern Apprenticeship Programme with a dedicated workplace buddy, a Job Coach from the in-house Employability Team and regular networking sessions with other apprentices.
What We're Looking For:
* Motivated Individuals: Highly motivated and committed individuals eager to join our Modern Apprenticeship Programme.
* Skills: Strong communication, customer service, someone who can follow instructions well and understand the importance of their role in delivering a vital service to patients, time management skills, along with the ability to understand and follow various procedures and processes.
* Interest: A particular interest in catering and chef roles, coupled with a positive attitude towards work and professional development.
* Qualifications: You are required to demonstrate that you can work at National 5/SCQF level 5
Duties as a Chef may include:
* Preparation of daily menu items for patients, Staff & public /visitors
* Production, presentation & service of function menus as required
* The correct and safe use of all equipment used in daily food production
* Ensure the department hygiene standards are maintained in all food prep areas
* To comply with food hygiene regulations & HACCP policy ensuring daily food samples are taken
You will receive training to become competent in all of your tasks.
No Prior Experience Necessary: No prior experience necessary but some understanding of a kitchen/hospitality environment would be an advantage.
