Job summary
Working with the Director of Finance and Deputy Director of Finance, the Head of Financial Management will coordinate financial performance, planning, and reporting activities across the Trust, which has a budget of approximately £600m and around 7,000 staff. The role involves supporting the achievement of financial targets and regulatory requirements, and developing the financial performance framework as part of the leadership team. The post also entails leading the Trust's financial management teams to provide high-quality financial information to support short- and medium-term financial planning.
The post holder will support the implementation of the Hospital Transformation Programme (£312m capital investment), taking a lead on revenue changes, collaborating with clinical colleagues on skill changes, and monitoring benefits.
As part of the finance leadership team, the post holder will promote a culture aligned with the Trust's Vision and Values, engaging staff, service users, and stakeholders in quality improvement and service transformation.
Main duties of the job
1. Ensure effective financial systems are in place for understanding current financial performance, variances, causes, and drivers, and for accurate financial forecasting.
2. Coordinate the production of the Trust's monthly management accounts and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
3. Define and oversee the quality assurance processes for financial reports, ensuring validations and reconciliations are completed.
4. Implement rigorous review processes for monthly financial positions and forecasts, ensuring operational ownership.
5. Support the production of statutory annual accounts and coordinate stock-takes across operational areas.
6. Promote strong financial controls, managing the Trust's financial policies, instructions, and schemes of delegation.
7. Oversee business case development and financial modelling to support sound financial decision-making.
