Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Respiratory and Internal Medicine across the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) and University Hospital Llandough (UHL) sites in Cardiff.
A special interest in lung cancer and pleural disease is required to work alongside two other Consultants with a lung cancer and pleural disease interest. There will also be an opportunity for the post holder to develop additional sub-specialty interests to complement the respiratory department.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
As part of the Job Plan, the successful candidate will form part of the Respiratory Department's commitment to 7-day respiratory working. This involves a PTWR review of those patients admitted overnight at UHW, to a maximum of 5 followed by a 'troubleshooting' review of patients on B7. The troubleshooting involves reviewing any unwell patients and those potentially highlighted for discharge by the weekday team. This additional responsibility is recognised with a day in-lieu in the Off Ward timetable. The usual working hours are Saturday and Sunday when rostered on for 3 hours. This commitment to Respiratory Medicine does not include Bank Holidays.
The successful candidate will join 12 other Respiratory Physicians within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (8 Respiratory / General medicine and 4 Cystic Fibrosis) and 70 Consultant Physicians in the Medicine Directorate which is located across two acute sites.
Academic interests will be encouraged research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.
