Job Title: Lecturer in Props and Modelmaking

College: Creative Arts, Technology and Engineering

Location: High Wycombe

Employment: Full Time - Permanent

Salary: £38,784 - £43,482 per annum

This role is within the College of Creative Arts, Technology and Engineering, teaching on our BA (Hons) SFX Props and Modelmaking for Film and TV and MA Special Effects for Film and TV. You will also be expected to lead or co-lead one or both of these programmes.


What We Look For

Role requirements are versatile making skills across a range of materials and processes. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every criterion. We are particularly looking for experience in:

* Set Dec
* Hand props
* Basic metalwork, including MIG welding
* Metal lathe operation
* General woodwork and carpentry
* Fibreglassing
* Foam use and material knowledge (PU foams, rubbers, plastics)
* Vac forming
* Moulding and casting techniques, including gun moulds
* Sculpting skills
* CAD experience
* 3D modelling and some experience with 3D printing technologies
* Painting, ageing, and surface finishing
* Weapons creation
* Leatherwork
* Confident use of power tools and workshop equipment
* Pattern making

Job Description

Location: High Wycombe

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Research and Knowledge Exchange:

* Conduct research and scholarly activity, plan to generate income and align research with teaching
* Engage with business and professional networks to promote teaching, learning and research
* Engage in doctoral supervision
* Contribute to knowledge via refereed outputs and other publications
* Embed research within teaching and curriculum and contribute to research impact
* Contribute to inclusive and interdisciplinary research culture
* Undertake research with external partners, communities, professional bodies and/or employers
* Contribute to REF, KEF and internal/external research and enterprise strategies

Learning, Teaching & Scholarship:

* Undertake research-informed teaching and manage curriculum delivery
* Deliver knowledge through peer-reviewed pedagogical outputs
* Lead inclusive teaching and learning to ensure excellent student experience and outcomes
* Contribute to innovative pedagogy, curriculum and programme design including digital tools
* Provide tutoring and pastoral support, including placements and internships
* Engage with professional bodies and employers to enhance practice and outcomes
* Provide effective feedback and guidance to students
* Participate in funded educational projects as required

Leadership And Academic Citizenship:

* Contribute to growth by increasing student recruitment
* Participate in planning and decision making with data-informed insights
* Develop others through mentoring and CPD
* Engage with professional bodies and contribute to regional community
* Support peer review and external assessment ensuring quality
* Contribute to income generation

Person Specification

Assessment Methods: A = Application, T = Test/Presentation, I = Interview

* Education, Qualifications & Training
o First degree in a relevant field
o Doctoral level qualification (or working towards) or relevant professional experience
o Recognised HE teaching qualification and/or Fellow of the HEA or commitment to achieving within two years
* Knowledge & Experience
o Expert knowledge in discipline
o Delivering quality learning and teaching
o Active researcher with high-quality outputs
o Contribution to research-active communities
o Delivering excellent student experience
o Involvement with subject associations or professional bodies
o Knowledge/experience of income generation or funded projects
o Experience of research supervision or personal tutoring
* Skills
o Excellent presentation and teaching delivery
o Digitally proficient with Microsoft tools
o Strong customer service skills
* Special Requirements
o Willingness to work across campuses and off-site locations
o Willingness to contribute to Open Days (may include Saturdays)
o Deliver a micro-teach as part of interview
