This role is within the College of Creative Arts, Technology and Engineering, teaching on our BA (Hons) SFX Props and Modelmaking for Film and TV and MA Special Effects for Film and TV. You will also be expected to lead or co-lead one or both of these programmes.
What We Look For
Role requirements are versatile making skills across a range of materials and processes. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every criterion. We are particularly looking for experience in:
* Set Dec
* Hand props
* Basic metalwork, including MIG welding
* Metal lathe operation
* General woodwork and carpentry
* Fibreglassing
* Foam use and material knowledge (PU foams, rubbers, plastics)
* Vac forming
* Moulding and casting techniques, including gun moulds
* Sculpting skills
* CAD experience
* 3D modelling and some experience with 3D printing technologies
* Painting, ageing, and surface finishing
* Weapons creation
* Leatherwork
* Confident use of power tools and workshop equipment
* Pattern making

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Research and Knowledge Exchange:
* Conduct research and scholarly activity, plan to generate income and align research with teaching
* Engage with business and professional networks to promote teaching, learning and research
* Engage in doctoral supervision
* Contribute to knowledge via refereed outputs and other publications
* Embed research within teaching and curriculum and contribute to research impact

Learning, Teaching & Scholarship:
* Undertake research-informed teaching and manage curriculum delivery

* Contribute to innovative pedagogy, curriculum and programme design including digital tools
* Provide tutoring and pastoral support, including placements and internships

Person Specification

* Education, Qualifications & Training
o First degree in a relevant field
o Doctoral level qualification (or working towards) or relevant professional experience
o Recognised HE teaching qualification and/or Fellow of the HEA or commitment to achieving within two years

o Expert knowledge in discipline
o Delivering quality learning and teaching
o Active researcher with high-quality outputs
o Contribution to research-active communities
