3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
* We are seeking a highly experienced Family Support Officer (Grade H) to join a dynamic team supporting children with disabilities and their families.
* This is a community-facing role requiring direct work with families, including non-statutory reviews and early intervention support.
* The successful candidate will be passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable children and families, and will work collaboratively with partner agencies to deliver holistic, evidence-based interventions.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
* Undertake direct work with children and families, particularly those with disabilities, through non-statutory reviews and targeted interventions.
* Deliver early intervention and prevention strategies to support families at all levels of need.
* Provide outreach, home visits, and office-based support, including occasional out-of-hours work.
* Develop tailored support plans and act as Lead Professional under the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) where required.
* Attend multi-agency meetings (e.g. MASH, MARAC, MASE) and work closely with social care, schools, and the Youth Offending Service.
* Promote resilience and reduce the need for higher-tier services through evidence-based parenting programmes and family mediation.
* Monitor and report on outcomes, keeping clear and timely records using appropriate IT systems.
* Address safeguarding concerns promptly and in accordance with procedure.
* Provide support for young people at risk of exploitation, offending, or exclusion from education.
* Support transitions between children's and adult services.
Skills/Experience:
* Proven experience in family support, particularly within children's disability services.
* Strong understanding of child development, safeguarding procedures, and education/child protection legislation.
* Experience delivering evidence-based parenting programmes and/or interventions around domestic violence, mediation, youth offending, or exploitation.
* Knowledge of the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) and experience acting as Lead Professional.
* Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
* Ability to build constructive relationships with multi-agency partners and families.
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a caseload independently.
* IT literacy, with experience using case recording systems.
Additional Information:
* The closing date: 23/09/2025 @12:00.
* Recognised Level 3 qualification or above in social care, youth work, education, criminal justice, or a related field.
* A full UK driving licence is desirable.
* Part-time role - Hours per week: 30 hours (working hours: 09:00 – 17:15).
* This role requires an enhanced DBS and declaration of all criminal convictions, cautions, or pending cases.
• Recognised Level 3 qualification or above in social care, youth work, education, criminal justice, or a related field.
