Job summary The British Army is evolving to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. To remain a trusted, respected and attractive institution we must strengthen our brand and build meaningful partnerships that reinforce our reputation with the public, partners, and stakeholders. This exciting opportunity sits within the Campaigns team in Army Communications and Engagement Directorate. You will be responsible for shaping the Army's brand narrative beyond visual identity, ensuring it is understood, relevant and aligned with Defence and wider government priorities. You will also lead the development and delivery of partnership strategies with organisations across the public, private and third sectors to extend the Army's reach and impact. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Job description This senior role combines strategic brand leadership with partnership development to enhance the British Army's reputation and reach. Working within a dynamic communications team, you will lead the refinement of the Army's brand narrative whilst ensuring alignment with His Majesty's Government brand guidelines and government communication principles. The role requires building and maintaining strategic partnerships across diverse sectors, from business and education to charities and civil society organisations. The position demands strong analytical skills to monitor and evaluate brand and partnership effectiveness using government evaluation frameworks. You will work collaboratively with Army Communications Plans and Insight, Data, Evaluation & Analysis (IDEA) teams, providing expert advice to senior leaders on brand positioning and partnership opportunities. You will provide line management for the Brand and Partnerships Officer. The role offers the opportunity to champion innovation in brand and influencer work whilst fostering an inclusive team culture that reflects the diversity of communities the Army serves. You will ensure communications approaches consider accessibility requirements and effectively reach marginalised groups. Main Role Responsibilities: Brand Narrative Development and Application Lead the refinement of the British Army's brand narrative, ensuring it reflects organisational values, Defence priorities and resonates with key audiences. Ensure brand narrative aligns with His Majesty's Government brand guidelines and government communication principles, maintaining consistency with wider Defence and cross-government messaging strategies. Work with the Army's Brand Manager on visual brand application and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen and showcase the Army's brand through cultural moments or national initiatives. Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders on brand positioning to protect and enhance the Army's reputation. Partnerships Identify, secure and manage strategic partnerships with organisations across business, education, charities and civil society that reinforce the Army's credibility and reputation. Develop partnership proposals, memoranda of understanding, and contractual agreements whilst ensuring Army objectives and value for money are achieved. Build and maintain relationships with trusted influencers, ambassadors, and advocates from local community leaders to national thought leaders. Conduct thorough due diligence on potential partners including reputational risk assessment and alignment with Army values and government propriety standards. Leadership and Management Provide direct line management supervision for the Executive Officer Brand and Partnerships Officer. Bid for and manage budgets ensuring effective financial controls and compliance with Army/Ministry of Defence procurement requirements. Champion innovation in brand, influencer and partnership work whilst fostering an inclusive and supportive team culture that reflects the diversity of communities the Army serves, ensuring communications approaches consider accessibility requirements and reach marginalised groups effectively. Planning and Evaluation Working closely with Army Communications Plans and IDEA teams, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of brand and partnerships activity against agreed Key Performance Indicators and Army objectives. Apply government evaluation frameworks and methodologies, ensuring evaluation approaches support inclusive communications principles and capture impact across diverse audience segments. Conduct real-time data analysis to enable rapid optimisation and performance enhancement. Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Head of Campaigns. Person specification Essential Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, particularly for digital platforms. Working with influencers, partners and wider stakeholders to deliver outcomes. Using evaluation and audience insight to inform decisions and drive continuous improvement. Collaborating effectively within teams and with external organisations, while also working independently on projects. Desirable Skills: Working within a communications or marketing role with focus on refining and applying branding principles to enhance reputation and drive positive outcomes. Proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen and amplify a brand. Embedding brand principles across campaigns, stakeholder engagement and recruitment activity. Managing relationships with internal stakeholders and external third parties and agencies taking at risk, assessing and applying appropriate mitigation. Leadership and management experience.
