Fernley Medical Centre is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Salaried GP to join our friendly, supportive and forward‑thinking team. We are a long‑established practice in the heart of Sparkhill, Birmingham, providing high‑quality healthcare to a diverse patient population. Rated Good by the CQC, we are proud to be a high QOF‑achieving training practice for both GP Registrars and Allied Health Professionals. Main Duties of the Role
- Providing comprehensive primary care services to patients
- Managing a varied and interesting clinical caseload
- Undertaking routine GP consultations and clinical decision making
- Contributing to chronic disease management and preventative healthcare
- Working collaboratively with the wider primary care team
- Supporting quality improvement initiatives and service development
- Participating in clinical meetings and educational activities
Opportunities for Development

Key Responsibilities
- Make yourself available for surgery consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, prescription checks, paperwork, referrals and correspondence in a timely manner.
- Make professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems.
- Assess health care needs of patients with undifferentiated problems.
- Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- Develop care plans in consultation with patients and in line with current management protocols.
- Provide counselling and health education.
- Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other providers as appropriate.
- Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
- Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.
- Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary or generically when clinically appropriate.
- Ensure that all work carried out which carries a private fee is properly recouped and accounted for.
- Undertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure awareness and compliance with all relevant practice policies and guidelines.
- Commit to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
- Contribute to evaluation, audit and clinical standard setting within the practice.
- Contribute to the development of computer‑based patient records.
- Summarise patient records and accurate Read coding.
- Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
- Mentor additional roles within the practice.

You are required to uphold the practice’s data protection policies when dealing with information about patients, carers, colleagues and other healthcare workers. Unauthorised disclosure of confidential information will result in disciplinary action and may lead to dismissal.
