 
        
        Strategic Design and Transition Programme – Strategy Policy Specialist – 32182

We are looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to join the Strategic Design and Transition Programme. Your role will involve analysing the Independent Water Commission’s recommendations, shaping the EA’s future structure and developing plans to protect and enhance the environment while supporting sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
 * Provide high‑quality, balanced and evidence‑based advice to support future thinking in light of the IWC report recommendations, including the recommendation to create a single water regulator.
 * Engage with colleagues across Government, within the EA and other regulators to ensure collaborative development of our thinking.
 * Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking, keeping pace in a fast‑moving working environment.
 * Take a flexible approach and assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as needed.
 * Act as an active member of the programme team, helping to create conditions for a high‑performing and agile team.
Experience & Skills Required
 * Experience working with central government to develop policy, including collaboration with specialists such as economists and scientists.
 * Strategic thinking and decision‑making skills.
 * Excellent communication and engagement skills, including the ability to translate complex or ambiguous issues into simple, targeted advice at short notice.
 * Experience of working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
Additional Information
Location: EA Office (national role – flexible). Some travel may be required, including occasional overnight stays.
Contract: Up to 12 months.
